Five Stylish and Practical Luxury Sports Chronograph Watches

Few segments in the watch industry are as popular and heavily contested as the luxury sports watch. The dive watch may come closest, but we can all agree that the luxury sports watch has boomed in recent years. Even independent watchmakers like H. Moser & Cie and Czapek have jumped on the bandwagon with (it must be said) very cool collections. Simultaneously, there’s also a move towards added practicality within a luxury sports watch, for instance, with a GMT or Calendar complication or even a Chronograph. Looking at the latter, we’ve compiled a list of five luxury sports watches, all fitted with a chronograph movement.

A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph

We’re kicking things off with the top-end A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph. This was surprisingly the only launch by the German manufacturer for Watches & Wonders this year, but given its complexity, that’s quite understandable. This is not a typical chronograph, as the pushers on the right side of the case not only start, stop and reset the chronograph but also adjust the day-date indications. It can even be done while the chronograph is running! It also has a dynamic reset-to-zero system, which is quite clever. All is explained in detail here, by the way. This amazingly complex and exquisitely finished chronograph comes in steel, with an integrated bracelet and a price upon request that’s supposedly around the EUR 135,000 mark.

Bell & Ross BR 05 Green

The BR 05, launched in 2019, was an important step for Bell & Ross as it pushed its circle-within-a-square design ethos in a new direction. Now fit for the urban jungle, this luxury sports watch offered something fresh and different from the Parisian brand. The BR 05 Chronograph was recently introduced with a sunray-brushed green dial, which strongly contrasts against the sleek steel exterior. The calibre BR-CAL.326 that’s visible under the see-through caseback is based on the Sellita SW510 and has 60 hours of power reserve. It’s available on a black rubber strap, but the integrated steel bracelet is the way to go. Prices range from EUR 6,400 on the rubber strap to EUR 6,900 on the bracelet.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport

Parmigiani Fleurier has merged the sporty Tonda GT with the sophisticated Tonda PF to create the Tonda PF Sport. In terms of style, it sits right between the two aforementioned models. The case is either in steel or gold, with a bezel that shows fewer ridges than its Tonda PF counterpart, as well as a more pronounced dial pattern. The Panda-look of the dial adds a ton of character, with applied indices and openworked hands finishing it off. The in-house high-frequency PF070 integrated automatic chronograph movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback. It comes on an integrated textured black rubber strap only and is priced at EUR 29,500 for steel or EUR 51,200 for rose gold.

BUlgari Octo Roma Chronograph

The Octo Roma by Bulgari has long had to play second fiddle to the Octo Finissimo, but no more. Following a revamp earlier this year, the Octo Roma looks better than ever. Its softer, more refined lines and curves give it a more universal appeal over its edgier sibling. The Chronograph comes in a 42mm wide steel case with a black or blue tricompax dial with a Clous de Paris pattern. The indices and hands are finished with Super-LumiNova, adding even more sportiness to the overall look. Inside, the calibre BVL 399 will keep running for up to 42 hours. Bulgari also adds a rubber strap to the mix, which is supplied along with the very comfortable stainless steel bracelet. It retails for EUR 9,900.

Tissot PRX Chronograph

When it comes to luxury sports watches, even with a chronograph movement, there’s no beating the Tissot PRX. Available in a wide range of stylish, the collection is one of the most successful launches in recent history. The PRX Chronograph comes in three distinct styles, of which this Blue Panda edition might be the coolest (although that’s personal, of course). The silver and blue dial sits well within the 42mm steel case. The ETA A05.H31 that powers it has a running time of 60 hours when fully wound by the central rotor. The integrated steel bracelet can be swapped out easily thanks to quick-release end-links, but why would you? It looks great as is! The price is EUR 2,045, making for a very appealing proposition altogether.
