The Bulgari Aluminium GMT x Fender Limited Edition
Bulgari’s GMT evokes the colours of the legendary Fender Stratocaster guitar.
Bulgari’s novelties for Geneva Watch Days are grouped around the theme of sound. Among the more classical notes of its new chiming watches, Bulgari is also introducing a special version of its Aluminium GMT inspired by the famous Stratocaster guitar made by Fender in 1954. Donning the livery of the original Stratocaster, the new Bulgari Aluminium GMT is a limited edition of 1,200 pieces. In light of the Stratocaster’s 70th anniversary, Bulgari takes the collaboration one step further, offering 140 exclusive anniversary sets and 70 custom Fender Stratocaster guitars for collectors.
In 2020, Bulgari staged the much-anticipated comeback of its famous Bvlgari Bvlgari Aluminio watch during Geneva Watch Days. This provocative, sporty model, initially released in 1998, featured an unconventional, vanguard combination of black rubber and lightweight aluminium with the double Bvlgari Bvlgari logo embossed on the rubber bezel.
Flaunting the colours of the original Fender Stratocaster, the Aluminium has a brown rubber bezel with the double Bvlgari logo and a matching rubber strap with articulated aluminium links. To evoke the sleek, lacquered looks of the Stratocaster, the light brown gradient dial is coupled with a creamy white and dark brown 24-hour GMT scale.
While the signature Arabic numerals are maintained at 12 and 6 o’clock, the rhodium-plated double indices applied to the dial are new and designed to emulate the frets of a Stratocaster. For enhanced legibility, the small rectangular blocks on the GMT scale are luminescent, just like the central hands. User-friendliness also enters the equation, and setting the local time and second time zone (home time) is done via the crown. The date window is at 3 o’clock.
The Bulgari Aluminium GMT X Fender comes in a 40mm aluminium case with a slim height of 9.7mm and 100m water-resistance. The caseback and crown are black DLC-coated titanium. Thanks to its combination of aluminium and titanium, it is exceptionally light. Bulgari has also redesigned the Velcro fastening of the rubber strap for increased comfort.
Hidden beneath is the BVL calibre 192 based on a classic Sellita SW 330. This automatic movement, which allows the GMT hand to be adjusted in one-hour increments at the crown, beats at 28,800vph and delivers a power reserve of 50 hours.
In addition to the 1,200 pieces of the Bulgari Aluminium GMT x Fender, which will retail for EUR 4,600, Bulgari and Fender join forces to celebrate the Stratocaster’s 70th anniversary with a limited series of 140 Aluminium watches in a special case inspired by the iconic guitar and 70 Stratocasters handmade at the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California.
