Last year saw the introduction of the first mechanical wrist watch with build-in mechanical barometer and altimeter; the Breva Génie 01. Beginning of this year, Breva added the Génie 02 (with altimeter) to the collection. Today we can show you the newest version of the Génie 01, a limited edition of 12 pieces, in platinum and with a transparent blue dial.
When comparing the two Génie models, the Génie 01 is the more complicated version with a full-swing weather station. The Génie 02 tells you accurately how much you ascended or descended, however it does not give you a weather forecast. And that’s something that can be very handy in the mountains where the weather can turn quickly. So the Génie 01 is actually a great compagnon for mountain activities, whether it is a nice walk or rock climbing. Or skiing during the colder months of the year.
The weather predictions are indicated on a transparent blue sapphire dial, and your height is indicated by blue raised numbers on the altimeter dial. The time (hours and minutes) is indicated by blued steel hands, on a grayish transparent sapphire dial with raised galvanic numbers and markers. Both transparent dials allow a look on the various gearings and movement components.
Under these sapphire dials is a patented mechanism, consisting of dual aneroid capsules to measure air pressure. The mechanical, manually-wound movement informs the wearer with a small seconds dial, altitude indicator, barometric pressure indicator, power reserve indicator, air pressure equalizer, equalizer seal indicator, barometric scale adjuster, and altitude scale adjuster. The Génie 01’s power reserve is 65 hours, which is indicated by a blued steel indicator, positioned to the right of the dual aneroid capsule and below the blue sapphire barometric dial.
No worries, we won’t try to explain the Génie 01 in full. We’ll leave that up to the good folks of Breva. This platinum version of the Génie 01 is available for CHF 180,000 or €148,000 Euro / $205,000 USD.
