The New Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White and Diver Brown Bronze (Live Pics & Price)
New colours/materials for the original square-shaped dive watch.
Even though mostly known for its military-inspired and pilot’s watches, Bell & Ross has long been involved in the concept of dive watches – which, in some ways, can also be seen as military-oriented pieces. For instance, in 1997, three years after its birth, the brand introduced Hydromax, an oiled-filled watch with 11,100m water-resistance. Then came the barrel-shaped BR 02 collection, entirely devoted to aquatic activities. But most importantly, in 2017, the brand managed to combine its classic square design with the functionalities of a dive watch, with the BR 03-92 Diver. Following models in steel and bronze, with red, green, blue, orange, luminous or black dials, this year it’s time for new colours, with the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White and Diver Brown Bronze.
By essence, a dive watch somehow has to be round… The need for a rotating bezel to measure dive times makes most watches all look alike. But when your brand is named Bell & Ross and your most emblematic model is a watch that has a square-shaped case, that makes the idea of a dive watch slightly more complex. But, taking the base of the BR 01 and BR 03 pilot’s watches, the brand released in 2017 the BR 03-92 Diver, a cool diving instrument with all the necessary equipment, and of course the iconic design cues of the brand, that of “the circle within a square.”
The classic BR 03-92 Diver, as well as the two new editions released today, is a 42mm watch with classic specifications for a diving tool. Topping the square case with its 4 functional screws is a unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute scale printed on an anodized aluminium insert, a thick sapphire crystal, a solid caseback, a well-protected screw-down crown with guards and overall, an instrumental design. And to make it even better, the watch is compliant with the strict ISO 6425 for dive watches (including the 2018 revision).
First released in stainless steel with a black dial and bezel, the brand has since introduced multiple editions of the BR 03-92 Diver. We’ve seen it with a case made of bronze, with cool colours such as this orange dial model, but also in ceramic case with a military inspiration or a luminous dial, one of the recurring themes of the brand. There was even a bronze model with a bold, highly original red dial. Following the success of this collection, the brand has now decided to unveil two new versions, a rather classic light-coloured dial model in steel as part of the permanent range, and a new limited edition in bronze, this time with a brown dial.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White
The first model in this 2022 collection plays on classic cues and will be added to the permanent lineup. Next to the black, blue and orange steel versions, this year the Parisian brand released a model that is inspired by icy seas, polar oceans and frozen lakes… and as you’ve guessed, the dial is all about white. A relatively rare shade within the B&R collection, which often plays on dark or earthy tones, this new edition is now equipped with a dial that seems white at first, but actually is a bit more complex.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White’s exact colour is opalescent silver. The white matte surface of the dial has been metallised, creating iridescent reflections. To bring the necessary contrast, all elements of the dial – hands and applied markers – are framed in black and largely filled with light green Super-LumiNova. The rest of the dial is entirely monochromatic, with no touches of colour to be seen anywhere. The anodized aluminium insert of the bezel is also classically treated in black with a silver-coloured scale.
Power is brought by the calibre BR-CAL.302, an automatic movement that displays the hours, minutes, seconds and the date and based on the tried-and-tested Sellita SW300-1 (with 4Hz frequency and 38h power reserve). This version is delivered on a woven black rubber strap with a steel pin buckle, and an additional ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap is also included.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White is now available for orders on the brand’s website and is priced at EUR 3,800.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Brown Bronze
Following the release of the first bronze BR 03-92 Diver with a black dial and bronze bezel insert in 2018, the brand has since expanded this theme by playing on colours. The bronze case has since been matched with blue, green or red, all used for both the dial and the aluminium insert. All have been released in limited editions of 999 pieces, and the new BR 03-92 Diver Brown Bronze brings yet another colour, and is still presented as a limited edition.
While all elements are identical to the classic steel models, the main difference is of course the use of CuSn8 bronze for the case and the bezel. This material, long associated with the world of divers, works well within the context and offers a warmer, maybe less instrumental look to the watch. As you’d expect, the watch is still 300m water-resistant and ISO compliant. In this version, the caseback is made of stainless steel. The dial and the bezel are now executed in brown, with rose gold-plated applied markers and hands to match the colour of the case.
Inside is the same calibre BR-CAL.302 as described above and this Diver Brown Bronze is delivered on a brown calfskin leather with a bronze pin buckle, and an additional woven black rubber strap is also included in the waterproof Pelican Box.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Brown Bronze, a limited edition of 999 pieces, is now available for orders on the brand’s website and is priced at EUR 4,500.
