Beaubleu is a young, independent French brand founded in 2017 by automotive and luxury product designer Nicolas Ducoudert. Gaining attention for the circular, orbiting hands featured in the brand’s collections, Beaubleu returns with new models born from an unexpected collaboration with the Monnaie de Paris, the official French national mint. Founded in 864, the mint is one of the oldest continuously operating institutions in the world, producing euro coins, collector coins and medals. Using machine-struck minting techniques to create watch dials, the Beaubleu x Monnaie de Paris collaboration has resulted in two sub-collections: La Pièce no. 1 and La Pièce no. 2.

Both models share the same round 39mm steel case with a 10.2mm thickness and an intriguing design with hollowed flanks, sweeping lugs, a hidden crown and a raised bezel with a mirror-polished bevel and a brushed surface. Available in steel and gold PVD-coated steel, the Parisian minted dials command attention with their textured surfaces, volumes and bas-relief details.

Similar to the layout of the Seconde Française model released in 2024, which features a floating seconds hand, La Pièce no. 1 has a concave, stepped dial. The pie pan dial is composed of three different heights progressing from the perimeter, with two adjacent tracks, descending a step to the chapter ring with pad-printed Roman numerals, and reaching the lowest level in the centre with the brand’s logo. Naturally, the brand’s distinctive round hands tell the time. The seconds hand, which floats mysteriously over the dial, is the party trick. Fixed to a transparent disc mounted on the central axis, above the hour and minute hands, the round seconds indicator seems to be floating in mid-air. Protected by a double-domed sapphire crystal, the gold PVD model is available with Champagne and Moka dials, while the steel case is paired with Olive Green, Burgundy, Graphite and Empire Blue dials.

La Pièce no. 2 shares the same configuration but is more elaborately decorated and presented with Rose Gold, Jet Black and Silver dials. Pushing the Monnaie de Paris’s know-how further, the sloping chapter ring features an elaborate series of gills and gleaming mirror-polished hour markers that have been machined directly from the monobloc material of the dial. As in Pièce no. 1, the hour and minute hands are satin-brushed, and the floating seconds circle features a grained, textured surface.

Both models are paired with interchangeable slinky metal mesh bracelets or leather straps. The automatic movement powering the watches is made by France Ebauches (a property of the Festina Group), runs at 4Hz, and delivers a 46-hour power reserve. Further underscoring the French provenance of the brand, the movement is assembled in Maîche, in the watchmaking region of France (near Morteau and the Swiss border).

Each colour variant is limited to 888 pieces. Models paired with a leather strap retail for EUR 1,790, while those fitted with a mesh bracelet option retail for EUR 1,890. More information at beaubleu-paris.com.
