The new Baltic Prismic Stone Dials in Three Vibrant Colours
Three cities, three natural stones resulting in three bold editions of Baltic's dress watch.
Baltic, the French brand founded in 2017, continues to expand operations with multiple new collections – such as the funky MR Roulette, the race-oriented Tricompax Tour Auto, or the rugged Hermétique – but also physical points of sales in Paris, London and New York. A strong departure from the online-only inaugural concept, which shows the brand’s ambitions for the future, these showrooms will soon have a special treat for Baltic’s fans. Released in limited series, here are the new Prismic Stone Dials, three different and vibrant models, each with a natural stone and available from the respective cities they represent.
Celebrating the recent openings of the NYC and London-based showrooms (the one in Paris, which is also the brand’s HQ, has been around for some years), Baltic unveils a trio of stone dials based on the recent Prismic collection, the brand’s vision of a cocktail watch. Geometric, rather groovy, and pretty original, the Prismic is not specifically a dress watch but something bolder, more colourful, and sharper. It certainly is an elegant watch with compact proportions, but it has more audacity than a traditional tuxedo-like dress watch. And the addition of stone dials only confirms this vocation – something we’ve explained in more detail in this article. In short, the 1960s Mad Men vibe.
While receiving new dials, the base remains the same. The case of the Baltic Prismic measures 36mm in diameter and 44mm in length. Deliberately compact, with a thickness of 9.2mm, including the box-shaped crystal on top, but nevertheless striking. The Prismic is bold and has a presence, as its case combines stainless steel for the bezel, lugs and caseback and grade 5 titanium for the middle case. Multiple finishes adorn the case, with lugs that are polished on top and brushed on the flanks, while the titanium band has a slightly grainy finish, contrasting with the polished bands on the edges of the bezel and caseback. The upper part of the stepped bezel is polished, while the periphery is circular brushed. The crown has a cool, angled, knurled pattern, too.
While the classic versions of the Baltic Prismic have rather complex dials with several layers, different textures and strongly shaped markers, these new Stone Dials Showroom Edition models leave most of that out and focus on the colours and textures of the stones instead. New York is depicted by Green Jade, London by a vibrant Red Agate stone and Paris receives a Lapis Lazuli base. All have their own texture and charm, with a certain preference on my side for the London edition’s rather polarising red dial. To keep things legible and not too crowded, Baltic went back to traditional baton-shaped, faceted applied markers and a simple printed small seconds track. The handsome hands of the collection have been kept with brushed top surfaces and polished chamfers.
Inside this elegantly original case is an ETA Peseux 7001, a simple yet proven hand-wound movement. Thin and compact, it’s perfectly suited for the Baltic Prismic collection and brings a decent 42-hour power reserve. The decoration is simple and fairly pleasant, with blued screws, Geneva stripes and diamond-polished bevels.
As with the classic models, the Baltic Prismic Stone Dials are available on a thin and supple leather strap or a fancy brushed braided stainless steel bracelet. The latter is flexible and pleasant to wear but also perfectly integrates with the case’s shape. Both options are equipped with quick-release spring-bars.
The Baltic Prismic Stone Dials are limited and numbered to 200 pieces per model. They are available exclusively from the showroom in their respective city, but all three pieces can also be ordered from the brand’s website. The price is set at EUR 1,250 (excl. taxes) for the leather strap options and EUR 1,310 (excl. taxes) for the steel mesh bracelet. For more details, please visit baltic-watches.com.
