New Dials for the Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 38

The large moon phase display is back in luxurious 38mm red gold cases with sparkling aventurine or grey sunray-brushed dials.

Arnold & Son’s obsession with the Moon has materialised in different models, revealing our neighbouring satellite in its most spectacular form. Starting with the Perpetual Moon of 2013 with its enormous moon, followed by the Double Hemisphere Perpetual with two large moons and culminating with the 2021 Luna Magna with one of the largest spherical moon phase displays to appear inside a wristwatch, Arnold & Son has paid tribute to the Moon with great eloquence. Expanding its selection of moon phase models, Arnold & Son unveils two Perpetual Moon limited editions during Geneva Watch Days.

The red gold Blue Aventurine and Cliff Grey editions share the smaller 38mm case size of the Perpetual Moon family with a thickness of 10.4mm, introduced in 2023. The polished 18k red gold case has sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant to 30 metres.

Available with a sparkling blue aventurine glass background or a sleek, sunray-brushed Cliff Grey dial, Arnold & Son’s large 29mm aperture hosting the moon phase complication spans the dial from 10 to 2 o’clock. The sky, in blue aventurine or a grained matte blue colour on the Cliff Grey model, features the giant 11.2mm moon crafted in iridescent white mother-of-pearl accompanied by the constellations of Cassiopeia and Ursa Major. The moons are hand-painted with details like shadows to make them more realistic. The moon and stars emit a bright white glow in the dark, thanks to the Super-LumiNova.

The more compact case size introduced last year required the development of a new calibre, the manual-winding A&S1612. Measuring 29.4mm across and with a height of 4.95mm, the movement is the smallest in Arnold & Son’s repertoire and has a frequency of 21,600vph and a robust 90h power reserve. The astronomical moon phase complication will remain accurate for 122 years if kept wound. Viewed from the reverse, the movement is beautifully decorated with radiating Côtes de Genève, circular satin-finished wheels, blued and chamfered screws and polished and bevelled bridges.

The new Perpetual Moon 38 models come with alligator leather straps – ink blue or grey – and an 18k red gold pin buckle. The Perpetual Moon 38 red gold Blue Aventurine reference is limited to 88 pieces and retails for CHF 36,700 (incl. tax), while the Cliff Grey is limited to 28 pieces and retails for CHF 32,400 (incl. tax).
