Based on the elegant Tribute 1, Armin Strom adds several layers of artisanal decoration.
Known for its highly decorated, openworked in-house movements finished to very high standards, Armin Strom entered the dress watch category in 2021 with its surprisingly restrained Tribute 1 model in 2021. While still bearing most of the attributes of the brand, design-wise or technically, the Tribute collection was simpler, more discreet and mostly, featured almost entirely closed dials. In 2024, and together with Horomariobro, Armin Strom decided to unveil what was hidden under the dial and to elevate the decoration to even higher levels, by presenting the Tribute² Copper Edition. The model now returns in the brand’s own collection, as the new Armin Strom Tribute² Aurum Edition.
Most of the technical details and the overall design of this new Tribute² Aurum Edition are shared with previous editions of the Tribute 1 model, starting with the case shape and dimensions. A refined and compact expression of the brand’s DNA, including the discreet presence of the “lip” at 6 o’clock, the Armin Strom Tribute² is a compact 38mm watch with a thin sub-10mm profile. The structured and angular lugs are short, and the case, polished on top, brushed on the flanks, is both elegant and sharp. It features sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant to 50m. The crown at 2 o’clock adds a touch of originality, as well as bringing comfort.
In line with what Horomariobro and Armin Strom created in 2024, the Tribute² Aurum Edition elevates the collection’s contemporary aesthetic to the next level, unveiling most of the technical components and refining their decoration to the high standards for which Armin is known. More openworked and skeletonised than its predecessors, this edition enhances the architectural presence of the movement while revealing even more of the hand-finished details. The base of the dial, which is also the main plate of the movement, is made of brass and gold-plated (hence the Aurum name), and finished by hand with the rare tremblage technique, resulting in a rich texture. It is paired with a smoked grey sub-dial with gold-coloured hands and markers.
A defining technical element of the watch, the motor barrel, usually closed on the Tribute 1, is here fully opened with hand-polished bevelled spokes as well as a black-polished, bevelled steel finger bridge. More elements of the kinetic chain (the click, its bridge, and the winding wheels), usually hidden under the dial, have been unveiled here for a discreet technical look. While the overall layout remains familiar, the openworked approach transforms the watch.
Under the sapphire back is the hand-wound Calibre AMW21, developed and manufactured entirely in-house, which delivers an impressive 100-hour power reserve despite its compact dimensions. This performance is made possible by the movement’s innovative motor barrel construction, in which the arbour delivers the energy to the gear train – a configuration that improves efficiency while optimising space within the movement. Operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), the calibre features a variable inertia balance wheel and a flat overcoil spring, supported by the system 78 signature finger bridge. The back is also elegantly finished with Geneva stripes on the three-quarter bridge, a wide 60° hand-polished bevel and a three-dimensional escapement wheel bridge with a polished sink. The movement is assembled twice, a hallmark of the brand.
Worn on a taupe Epsom strap with taupe stitching, the Armin Strom Tribute² Aurum Edition is a limited edition of 10 pieces. It is priced at CHF 27,000. More information at arminstrom.com.
