The New TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph
Two years after the debut of the new movement inside the Monaco case, the rattrapante joins the Carrera line in titanium-clad form.
We knew this one was coming… Since TAG Heuer unveiled the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph in 2024, it felt inevitable that the brand’s advanced rattrapante chronograph movement would make it into the Carrera line. Now, that moment has arrived. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph brings the rattrapante complication to the Carrera lineup, wrapped in a high-tech titanium case and finished to a haute horlogerie standard. Presented at the LVMH Watch Week in Milan alongside the new 41mm Glassbox chronographs with the refined signature Glassbox sapphire design, this 42mm split-seconds model sits at the top of the line, made to impress, connecting iconic design elements and modern craft.
The case design stays true to the signature formula, with peaked lugs, a clean look, and racing functionality, but everything here feels sharper, muscular, and aggressive. Crafted entirely from grade 5 titanium, with satin-brushed and polished surfaces, the 42mm case measures 15.17mm thick. The signature Glassbox sapphire crystal is integrated almost seamlessly into the mid-case, merging crystal and metal into a continuous form. A discreet pusher at 9 o’clock operates the split-seconds mechanism, while the rectangular chronograph start/stop and reset pushers flank the titanium crown. A sapphire display caseback showcases the movement. Water-resistance is 30m.
The translucent sapphire dial immediately distinguishes this Carrera from the rest of the line. It’s not skeletonised in the traditional sense, yet it allows you to see the mechanics without losing the classic layout. Three sapphire subdials, for chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock and hours at 9, with red markings and hands, and running seconds at 6, are mounted on the same plane, adding depth and a three-dimensional appearance. The anthracite flange features a tachymeter scale that follows the crystal’s curve, eliminating parallax error. The rhodium-plated indices and open-worked hour and minutes hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova. The central chronograph hand in white and split-seconds hand in red lacquer stand out; the dial looks legible, modern, and very much Carrera.
The Calibre TH81-01 is a variation of the Monaco Split Seconds movement, the TH81-00. Built with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, this is an automatic split-seconds chronograph beating at 36,000 vibrations/hour with a 65-hour power reserve (or 55 with the chronograph engaged). The movement is constructed with over 350 components, with titanium bridges for reduced weight.
Finishing is higher than most TAG Heuer models: hand-bevelled edges, black-polished screws, and the brand’s hand-engraved checkered-flag motif across the plates. The column wheel ensures precise pusher action. The TAG Heuer shield-shaped rotor, brushed and red gradient-painted, gives the back view a distinct appearance.
The Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph is worn on a black rubber strap embossed with a textile pattern and detailed with red stitching, closed with a titanium folding clasp. Available from June 2026, the watch will join the Carrera’s permanent collection, priced at CHF 110,000. For more details and information, please visit TAGHeuer.com.
