Rémi Maillat, a watch design engineer, is behind the independent Krayon brand and creates watches that centre on our connection with natural time cycles. Krayon’s award-winning Everywhere watch, which charts sunset and sunrise times at any location worldwide, was succeeded by Maillat’s slightly simpler Anywhere watch, showing the length of the day along with sunrise and sunset times in a specific place. In 2025, Maillat developed the Anyday calendar watch as a more pragmatic time-management solution. Like a portable monthly organiser, the Anyday is an innovative, functional mechanical planner that displays all the days and dates of a month at a glance. After the initial model in white gold, Krayon introduces a second version of the Anyday in warm 18k rose gold, paired with an elegant two-tone anthracite grey dial.

At first glance, the Anyday could be mistaken for a straightforward time-and-date reference with time indicated conventionally by central hour and minute hands and a pointer hand indicating the date on the perimeter. However, there is (much) more than meets the eye.

In addition to displaying the current date, Anyday also shows whether it is a weekday or a weekend. To differentiate them, two superimposed discs beneath the cutouts on the light-grey peripheral track highlight the days of the week in grey, with Saturdays and Sundays highlighted in gold. The current date and day are indicated by a rose gold crescent-shaped pointer hand. In the photographs, the pointer indicates it is Thursday, the 6th of xxx month. However, if you are superstitious and want to know whether the 13th day of the current month falls on a Friday, Anyday provides an instant answer. Thanks to the clear distinction between working days and weekends, you can see that the 13th is also a Thursday.

Looking ahead, the four dots between 31 and 1 not only serve as a visual buffer between the end of one month and the start of the next but also preview the first four days of the following month, using the same weekday/weekend colour coding. Since indications are synchronised to a 31-day month, the calendar requires adjustment 5 times a year. Again, user-friendliness prevails, and the corrections are performed via the crown.

Sharing the same specifications as the white gold edition, the new 18k rose gold model has a compact 39mm diameter, a slim height of 9.5mm, and is polished throughout. The contrast between the polished rose gold case and the two-tone anthracite dial is strikingly elegant. The darker grey centre is adorned with a guilloché pattern of “Y” motifs (brand signature) and has applied Y-shaped rose gold indices. A close inspection of the gold indices reveals their polished Y-shaped tops and contrasting sandblasted facets, showcasing the high-level finishing that characterises the brand. The lighter grey peripheral track, with its slightly speckled surface and cutout numerals, contains two superimposed hand-painted discs in grey and gold.

The Anyday’s unique and highly intuitive display belies its complex 378-part mechanism. Powered by the in-house calibre C032, the manual-winding movement features two cams that drive the complication: a smaller one that accumulates energy over 24 hours to enable instantaneous date jumps at midnight (in 1/1000th of a second), and a larger snail cam that turns once every 31 days to produce the end-of-month transition. Running at 3Hz with a 72-hour power reserve, the movement is beautifully decorated with undulating Krayon waves on the mainplate, immaculate bevels and mirror-polished edges.

The Anyday Rose Gold is paired with an anthracite lizard leather strap and a rose gold pin buckle. We are awaiting confirmation of the official price, but it is expected to be the same as the white gold model, which retails for CHF 88,000. More information at krayon.ch.
