Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum
The most luxurious iteration of the world's thinnest tourbillon watch.
A year after Piaget broke the record for the thinnest tourbillon with its 2mm Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, Bulgari, following its decade-long pursuit of ultra-thin watchmaking, unveiled the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon in titanium, now the world’s thinnest flying tourbillon at just 1.85mm. The new Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum edition does not aim to break a new record. Still, it reinforces the existing one and once again demonstrates Bulgari’s ability to translate a technical concept into different material expressions without compromising performance.

The Octo Finissimo Ultra concept remains unchanged. The movement and case are integrated into a single horizontal architecture, eliminating traditional layering and compressing all functions into an ultra-flat construction. The caseback doubles as the mainplate, while key organs such as the barrel, gear train and tourbillon are arranged on the same plane. This radical approach allows the watch to maintain its record thickness despite the added complexity of a flying tourbillon.

The shift to platinum, however, changes the character of the watch. Measuring 40mm in diameter and still only 1.85mm thick, the case and integrated bracelet with satin-brushed and polished surfaces are now crafted entirely from this dense, noble metal. Compared to titanium, platinum brings weight but also manufacturing complexity.

Dial-side, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum brings subtle updates. Blue PVD accents appear on the skeletonised time display and mainplate, bringing contrast to the technical layout. The exposed ratchet wheel, in sandblasted steel with circular satin finish and geometric engraving, reinforces the mechanical aesthetic. As before, the display is reduced to essentials, with hours and minutes positioned off-centre and the flying tourbillon integrated directly into the main structure, at 5 o’clock.

Powering the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon is the hand-wound calibre BVF 900, developed with Concepto. Operating at 28,800vph with a 42-hour power reserve, the movement relies on ball bearings and ultra-thin construction principles to minimise friction and height. The tourbillon is guided peripherally and integrated within the movement plane, a key factor in achieving such extreme thinness.
The platinum bracelet is fitted with a fully integrated buckle. The watch is a limited edition of 10 pieces, priced at EUR 659,000. For more information, please visit www.bulgari.com.
