The New, More Compact Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 42mm
A reworked and more versatile version of an emblematic Big Bang.
Launched in 2016, the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 combines the best of Hublot: modern materials, an edgy skeleton movement with a 10-day power reserve – one of the most important calibres from the brand with the Unico Chronograph – and versatility with the practical one-click interchangeable strap system. With the current trend for smaller watches, we now get a more compact and ergonomic version of the model at 42mm versus 45mm. This new version launches in three different materials; King Gold, titanium and frosted carbon.
This new version of the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 retains the inherently familiar silhouette of the model but with more compact dimensions at 42mm x 13.9mm versus 45mm x 15.8mm making for a much more wearable iteration of the concept. It launches in three different materials with matt King Gold and titanium versions and a new lightweight, frosted carbon version. The water resistance is still rated 100m.
This smaller size required the development of a new, improved version of its architectural movement. The look of the movement remains familiar with a modern skeletonized design with several updates. The overall architecture of the movement has been kept with a “mecano” aesthetic. The face of the watch shows an openworked structure with the small seconds at 9 o’clock, the balance wheel at 7 o’clock and the rack and pinion system at 12 o’clock. The power reserve display has been modified. Driven by the linear rack mechanism, it is now digitally displayed at 3 o’clock by a differential display. Two superimposed disks rotate in opposite directions and are connected by a spiral spring that coils in their centre. The last two days of power reserve are highlighted in red – a hint it’s about time to wind the watch.
At the back of the watch, the 2 skeletonized barrels mounted in series can still be seen under three parallel bridges with a more refined decoration. These are satin-brushed finished and chamfered by hand and their colour matches that of the case. The balance wheel’s frequency is still at 21,600 vph which makes sense in relation to the super-long 10-day power reserve. It is fitted with an eccentric screw for fine-adjustment. The escapement features a silicon escape wheel and a stop-second mechanism allows for precise time setting.
The Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 King Gold and titanium versions come on a black classic striated rubber strap with a folding buckle in 18K King Gold and black-plated titanium. The lightweight speckled frosted carbon version is worn on a black fabric strap with Velcro fastening. The practical one-click interchangeable strap system allows changing the personality of your watch in seconds with no tools.
The Price is EUR 44,500 for the King gold version, EUR 23,900 for the titanium version and EUR 28,500 for the frosted carbon version. For more details, please visit www.hublot.com.
