The Superman is easily the watch most people think of when Yema comes up in conversation. Introduced in the late 1960s, the French dive watch has been part of the brand’s lineup ever since. Along the way, the Superman has turned up in a few surprising versions, from bronze cases powered by one of Yema’s newer manufacture movements to a rather unexpected tourbillon-powered iteration. Both rely on movements developed at Yema’s workshops in Morteau in the French Jura, moves that put the focus back on French mechanical watchmaking. The latest chapter is the Superman Titanium MoonTide, a limited edition with a full titanium build, a textured dial inspired by the moon’s surface, and the brand’s CMM.11 automatic calibre.

The watch keeps the classic Superman shape but now comes in a 38.5mm case made entirely from Grade 2 titanium, bracelet included. Measuring 11.3mm thick with a 46mm lug-to-lug and a 19mm lug width, it brings a lighter feel on the wrist while keeping the toughness you expect from a proper diver. The case sits well on the wrist as the curved lugs follow its shape. Water resistance remains a reassuring 300 metres, what a Superman should deliver.

Visually, the dial is where the MoonTide name becomes evident. Its textured surface is inspired by the rugged look of the moon, made using an oil-press process on a sandblasted titanium base. The pattern gives the dial a cratered look without becoming overly busy. Applied markers and black-plated hands treated with Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A give strong legibility, while the date window sits at six o’clock.

Surrounding the dial is a unidirectional ceramic bezel with a full 0-60 minute scale and a luminous triangle at 12 o’clock. The dial sits beneath a double-domed sapphire crystal. Like other Superman models, the crown also works with Yema’s bezel-lock system, designed to prevent accidental movement of the timing bezel during a dive.

At the back of the Superman Titanium MoonTide, a sapphire caseback reveals the CMM.11 manufacture movement. This calibre builds on the architecture introduced with the CMM.10, now adding a date function. Running at 4Hz, the movement offers a 70-hour power reserve and chronometric precision rated at -3/+5 seconds per day, with a symmetrical layout and shock protection.

The watch comes on Yema’s titanium Scales bracelet, inspired by Yema’s vintage dive watches of the 1960s. The watch can also be ordered on an FKM rubber strap for a sportier setup. Limited to 400 pieces, the Yema Superman Titanium MoonTide is priced at EUR 2,190 on the titanium bracelet or EUR 1,890 on the rubber strap. For more information, please visit www.yema.com.
