Ulysse Nardin Skeleton X Magma

A fully openworked movement, shaped like an X, housed in a sporty, coloured and textured carbon fibre case nicknamed “magma”… Yes, Ulysse Nardin is not walking down the classic side of the street here. Let’s be honest, the brand’s latest creation is bold and extreme,  but it’s also pretty cool. Let’s look at the new Ulysse Nardin Skeleton X Magma.

At the SIHH 2019, Ulysse Nardin launched a collection based on the X-factor, with the new (and more accessible version) of its signature watch, the Freak X. Alongside this watch was another bold piece, a new take on the brand’s classic openworked piece, with a newly decorated movement shaped like an X and a redesigned case. This watch was named the Skeleton X.

Based on this watch, Ulysse Nardin introduces a new, very hot version sizzling with red and black tones. The 43mm case is a combination of ultra-light carbon fibre and red, marbled epoxy resin – with random patterns making each watch unique. It is combined with a black leather strap attached with a triple-lug device.

The dial (or the absence of dial) reveals the movement and the “X” formed by four indexes, centred by a rectangle, anchored by Roman numerals on each side. All the element combine red and black to continue with the magma theme.

The movement is the impressive openworked and modern calibre UN-371, a powerful engine with a 96-hour power reserve and technical solutions such as an oversized silicon balance with nickel flyweights and a silicon “minuterie” gear train.

The new Ulysse Nardin Skeleton X Magma follows the brand’s strategy of reducing prices, and this new piece will be available for USD 25,000. More details at www.ulysse-nardin.com.

  1. I don’t think the red works but apart from that, I have to say, this is…something. Release this in black/grey and I think it would be acceptable on my wrist.
