The Tusenö Windseeker, an Accessible All-Rounder with a Northern Nautical Vibe
The Windseeker comes with a cool nautical vibe from a young Swedish micro-brand.
New watch micro-brands are created almost every day, with dozens of them surfacing and many disappearing as fast as they came. This is why we tend to be slightly selective about what we cover here on MONOCHROME. From time to time, however, one of these new ventures catches our attention, such as Tusenö, a relatively young Swedish brand created in 2015. One of its latest creations is a rather handsome watch with strong Nordic nautical inspiration. And this accessible automatic all-rounder is named the Windseeker.
The story of Tusenö started in 2015 in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. The brand operates from there, with production partners in Asia, Switzerland and Sweden. The brand states that “from 2020 onwards, our watches will be produced in small quantities in Switzerland, and all new projects will be 100% mechanical,” which speaks to us. Tusenö also plans to bring parts of the production line to Sweden, next to the Swiss assembly.
Now, on to the topic of the day, this rather appealing Tusenö Windseeker. What we’re looking at is a typical all-rounder, a timepiece that combines enough robustness for weekend activities and a certain casual elegance for the rest of the week. Go anywhere, do anything, as they say. There’s a strong nautical inspiration, too, reminding us that the brand is based in a country where the sea has its importance. And yes, there’s no denying a certain Aqua Terra vibe, too, which should be taken as a compliment.
The Windseeker is presented in near-perfect proportions, with a case measuring 39mm in diameter, 10.5mm (excl. crystal) thickness and a reasonable length of 47mm. The case is made from stainless steel, with an appealing sense of detail. The bezel is fixed and flat, with vertically brushed surfaces and a wide polished chamfer, while the rest of the case combines brushed and polished accents. There’s a sapphire crystal on top with AR coating, a see-through screwed caseback, an oversized screw-in crown and a 100m water-resistance rating.
While the case is classic, the dial is what brings most of the Windseeker’s personality. It features curved, engraved vertical lines inspired by the teak decks of classic sailing yachts, a sunray-brushed finishing and an outer minutes track executed with a grained texture. The hands and applied markers are polished and faceted with generous luminous inserts. To add to the personality of the watch, the model name and the tip of the seconds hand feature a contrasting colour – yellow or dark blue. A nice touch: the date disc matches the colour of the dial on all three versions, with options for a black, silver, or grey-blue dial (the latter is probably the most appealing and relevant in this nautical context).
Inside, no surprises, as we’re looking at a Sellita SW200 (a clone of the ETA 2824), a reliable automatic movement with 4Hz frequency and 41h power reserve. The Windseeker is presented on a 3-link stainless steel bracelet, with brushed flat surfaces and polished chamfers. It is closed by a butterfly folding clasp and half-links are included for a better fit, as well as quick-release spring bars. Optional leather straps are available from the brand. Also, a rubber tropic-like strap is included with the watch.
Available for pre-order with estimated deliveries at the end of 2024, the Tusenö Windseeker feels like an appealing watch (we’ll confirm this in a later hands-on article), specifically considering the price of EUR 699 or USD 649 (during the pre-order campaign, then EUR 749 or USD 699).
