The debate about the right size for a watch is never one with a clear answer, that much we know. Hence the reason pretty much all watch manufacturers offer collections in various sizes. It makes perfect sense to offer a watch in two or three different dimensions as every single wrist is unique. It matters a great deal to pretty much every one of us that a watch should first and foremost be comfortable to wear as well as look good. Answering the call of the public, Maurice Lacroix not only presents the rugged Aikon Venturer dive watch in 38mm but now also with a very trendy green colour scheme.

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon is a descendent of the Calypso, a collection the brand produced throughout the 1990s and one that included a dive watch too. The Aikon has performed extremely well for Maurice Lacroix, effortlessly riding the wave of luxury steel sports watches with an integrated design. And the brand shows no signs of letting up, as it now presents a smaller, unisex version of its rugged Aikon Venturer.

The case is reduced to 38mm instead of the previous, and rather sizeable for most, 43mm size. The steel case shares the same design as the rest of the Aikon family, with an integrated design and the signature “claws” on the bezel. In the case of the Aikon Venturer, the bezel rotates and incorporates a diving scale. The screw-down crown and solid caseback up the water resistance to a more than decent 300m.

With green being the hottest colour for the past few years, it was to be expected that Maurice Lacroix picks up this colour for the outdoor-oriented Aikon Venturer. Matching the green bezel insert is a sunray brushed green dial with applied markers. All indices and hands feature a good dose of Super-LumiNova for better night-time visibility. A framed date window and white minute track on the outer perimeter complete the dial. A black version is also available if green is not entirely your thing.

Powering the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38 is the Calibre ML115, which is basically a Sellita SW200-1. This automatic movement uses 26 jewels and runs at a frequency of 28,800vph while offering 38 hours of power reserve. It’s hidden from view by the solid caseback, decorated with a wave-like pattern and a large Maurice Lacroix “M” logo in the middle.

The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38 comes with a rubber strap in green, with a pin buckle, or a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. Both can be exchanged easily thanks to the integrated quick-release system. On rubber, the Aikon Venturer 38 retails for EUR 1,880, which goes up to EUR 1,990 when ordering the stainless steel bracelet, or EUR 2,140 for the bundle containing both which Maurice Lacroix also offers.

  1. Have they prohibited you to say the thickness or show the side of the watch?
