The Louis Moinet Eight Marvels of the World Set of Tourbillon Watches (Live Pics & Price)
One-of-a-kind Tourbillons dedicated to 8 of the greatest masterpieces of architectural art.
The latest métiers d’art watches from les ateliers Louis Monet are celebrating the famed 8 marvels of the world. This initiatory journey encompasses eight one-of-a-kind tourbillon watches, presented in a Louis Moinet travel trunk, resulting in a 2.5-million set of 8 impressive watches.
Travel broadens the mind… Inspired by his personal travels and discoveries, Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO and creative director of Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, has personally selected “8 Marvels of the World” representative of artistic diversity and human cultures through time to create as many highly ornamented and elaborate artistic homages. The one-of-the-kind watches pay tribute to the Colosseum, the Istanbul Blue Mosque, Petra, the pyramid of Khufu, the Taj Mahal, the great wall of China, the Rio de Janeiro Christ the Redeemer and the Machu Picchu.
These eight watches are presented in 47mm gold cases and are powered by the LM35 calibre, a hand-wound movement regulated by a one-minute tourbillon. Running at 21,600 vibrations per hour, it boasts 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The dial and case of the eight watches have served as a canvas for artistic decoration while revealing the tourbillon mechanism at their heart, via an opening at 6 o’clock. The métiers d’art featured include an impressive variety of traditional techniques such as miniature painting, hand-engraving, bas-relief engraving, enamelling or gem setting.
Taj Mahal – miniature painting on a white marble dial. Case hand-engraved with ornamental representations of the Taj Mahal and Indian mandala patterns, complemented by an engraving of a Mughal motif on the bezel.
Original combinations of techniques are also used. For instance, the representation of Petra involved bas-relief engraving, grisaille pictorial technique (using only shades of the same colour) and fresco painting (that consists in painting on freshly laid plaster before it dries, to allow pigment to merge with the plaster).
Colosseum – centre of the arena in onyx, surrounded by a symmetrical array of baguette-cut sapphires, arranged in a gradient ranging from green to yellow via all the colours of the rainbow. The steps of the Colosseum are finely detailed and polished.
The Louis Moinet Eight Marvels of the World set is presented in an elm burr travel trunk adorned with a silver-coloured Fleur de Lys pattern. Price is set at CHF 2,500,000 for the set of 8 watches. For more information, please visit www.louismoinet.com.
