The Accessible Montoir MWMOD-01 V2 Dive Watch gets Fresh New Colours
A follow-up to the brand’s first divers in 2023 boasts new colours in limited numbers.
Montoir is a fairly new microbrand that launched its first dive watch in late 2023 and now has a follow-up on Kickstarter with new dial and bezel colours. We were impressed with Montoir’s first release as the watches were stylish, had serious 200m water-resistance and included a well-proven Sellita automatic. While the general formula remains the same, new colours really do change the overall vibe and add freshness to the collection. The brand is based in the US (Chicago), but the watches are Swiss-made.
The stainless steel case of the Montoir MWMOD-01 V2 Dive Watches has a brushed finish with polished accents and is 40.5mm in diameter and 11.95mm in height (lug-to-lug is 48mm). The 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel has the same detailed 60-minute scale as before but now includes a green bezel insert with the green dial variant – last time, the blue dial had a blue bezel insert. Bezels for all other colours are black. A double-domed sapphire crystal with three AR coatings protects the dial, while the caseback is solid with an embossed diving helmet. The oversized/signed crown screws down, and water-resistance remains at 200 metres. The tropic-style recycled FKM rubber straps are 20mm and come with quick-release levers.
The new dial colours are Mint, Salmon, Cool Grey and Green, while other available colours are Polar White, Black and Blue. They have a lightly blasted matte finish with large indices of Super-LumiNova BGW9, and the hour and minute hands have matching lume inserts. There’s a simple, detailed minutes/seconds track and no date, keeping this a clean, to-the-point diving tool. Hand colours are silver on the green dial and black on the rest, making the green variant the most diverse of the group (hands and bezel insert).
Powering the Montoir MWMOD-01 V2 is the same Sellita SW200-1 automatic from before, which certainly isn’t a bad thing. This proven Swiss workhorse (an alternative to the ETA 2824-2) has 26 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) and comes with a 38-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and date (which isn’t utilized here). Accuracy is rated at +/-12 seconds per day.
The new Montoir MWMOD-01 divers are live on Kickstarter (from January 21st) and available in limited numbers. The Early Bird price is USD 399 for 48 hours. The standard Kickstarter price is USD 450, although you can order two watches for just USD 725. The final retail price is listed at USD 875. These are great value propositions for Swiss-made, pro-level divers. For more information, please visit montoir-watches.com and the dedicated Kickstarter page.
