It has been a while since we last saw a tonneau-shaped Seiko Presage… The last to surface on MONOCHROME was the Presage Enamel SPB049 from 2017, a quietly unusual model that stood apart from the round, conservative silhouettes that dominate Seiko’s classical offerings, or the 2019 Zen Garden SARY111 (SRPD05/07) series. But here we are in 2026, and the tonneau case returns, looking good and elegant, with a bit more casualness, though, in the new Seiko Presage Classic Series Craftsmanship Enamel Dial SPB537.

The first impression is how well-balanced the new Seiko Presage SPB537 feels. The 46mm by 35.9mm case dimensions it shares with the 2017 SPB049 might sound huge, but on the wrist, it wears much like a compact rectangular dress watch, despite the 12.5mm thickness, all thanks to the tonneau-shaped stainless-steel case’s curvature, which follows the wrist’s natural line. The watch is a classic Seiko in spirit, but with a silhouette that distinguishes it from the rest of the Presage family. The dual-curved sapphire crystal blends with the rounded case flanks, creating a sense of fluid continuity and adding to the vintage feel. The caseback features a sapphire crystal window, and the sizable crown is easy to grip. Water-resistance is 50m.

The enamel dial, a classic for the Presage collection, with its milky white sheen, catches light with a soft, dispersed glow. Each enamel plate, created under the supervision of master artisan Mitsuru Yokosawa and his apprentice, Kazunori Uchiyama, is the result of repeated firings at high temperatures, with every imperfection removed by hand until a flawless, vitreous surface emerges.

Like the very recent four-piece 145th Anniversary collection, this new Presage SPB537 borrows its visual elements from Seiko’s 1895 Timekeeper, the brand’s first pocket watch. Note the painted Roman numerals, a crisp railway minute track, and the ever-so-slightly recessed 24-hour sub-dial at six o’clock that gives the composition a sense of depth. The slender blued steel hands are hand-bent towards the dial. The colour contrast between blue and white feels almost European in its formality.

The new Seiko Presage Classic Enamel SPB537 is powered by the in-house calibre 6R5H, a movement that’s quietly becoming a Presage mainstay. It beats at 21,600 vibrations/hour and delivers a 72-hour power reserve. The 24-hour sub-dial is not a GMT function but a simple way to track a second time format, day and night. The gold-toned rotor, engraved with the Seiko logo, adds a bit of warmth to the otherwise technical view.

The five-row stainless steel bracelet fits the watch’s refined character well, making it hard to imagine it looking just as great on a strap. The outer links are brushed, while the inner rows are polished. It’s supple, comfortable, and closes with a three-fold clasp with push-button release.

The Seiko Presage Classic Craftsmanship Series Enamel Dial SPB537 will join the regular collection in February 2026, priced at EUR 1,650. For more details, please visit Seikowatches.com.

  1. @TDSWatchGuy: yes, or FM Conquistador. At first glance nice looking anyway, til the “fake” small second gets obvious…

  2. Are the hands really blued? I think they are painted blue, like they were on previous Presage watches.

  3. They are assuredly painted blue hands. That being said, I have an SPB333 and don’t mind, and very much like, Seiko’s painted blue application on handsets. It has a three-dimensional, translucency effect that could not otherwise be achieved with heat-bluing.
