A Brand New Ressence Collection, the Compact Type 9 Grey and Aqua
The smallest time-only model in the brand's catalogue retains the charm and technology of its larger counterparts.
Two years after introducing the Type 8, its most minimalist time-only watch, Belgian independent watchmaker Ressence expands the concept with the launch of the new Type 9. Like all Ressence creations, the latest model incorporates the brand’s patented ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) display module, with time indicated via revolving sub-dials – the so-called “beyond hands” concept. What sets the Type 9 apart is its smaller, 39mm case, perfectly aligned with modern trends and likely to captivate a wider audience.
The new Ressence Type 9 features a case crafted from grade 5 titanium; it is exceptionally lightweight at just 39 grams, including the strap. Designed with a smooth, pebble-like shape, the polished case is 11mm thick and topped with a domed sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface. Its subtle, short lugs lend a touch of traditional elegance to the overall appearance. As with all Ressence models, the caseback is the “control interface” for winding and setting, operated by slow rotation in the directions as thoughtfully indicated. Water resistance is minimal, offering protection only against occasional splashes.
The new Ressence Type 9 is revealed with two dial colours, Grey and Aqua (light blue). In a first for the brand, the minute markers have been relocated from the dial to the fixed bezel, which now features engraved short stick indices at 5-minute intervals. The hour sub-dial includes numerals at 3 and 9, with the remaining hours marked by indices like the minute markers, except at 12 o’clock, where the brand’s hand logo resides, and at 6 o’clock, marked with a ring. All engraved markings are filled with blue Grade A Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility. The bezel and the hour ring are circular-brushed finished for a cohesive aesthetic.
The ROCS 9 module in the new Ressence Type 9 is powered by the minute axle of a customised automatic movement based on the ETA 2892/2, offering a 36-hour power reserve – consistent with the brand’s previous model. The watches are paired with durable synthetic woven straps secured by a titanium pin buckle. Priced at CHF 12,500 (excluding taxes), the Type 9 Grey will be available at retailers this month, while the Aqua edition will be released in February 2025.

Excellent new size, dig the minutes counter on the bezel too. Very clean, chic, and sophisticated simultaneously!
