Recently, Porsche (the car manufacturer) revealed the latest version of its 911 Targa, based on the 992 generation. Today, the Stuttgart-based brand unveils a highly exclusive edition of this car, the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition. Produced by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, it comes with multiple “old-school” references in its design (colours, rims, leather). And because Porsche produces much more than cars, especially through its Austrian Porsche Design branch, there’s a watch to match this handsome Targa car. Meet the new Porsche Design Chrono 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition – for owners of the car only!

Alongside the launch of the “standard” version of the 992 Targa, Porsche also revealed today a new and highly exclusive model, a state-of-the-art 911 with design elements from the 1950s and early 1960s and the first of four collector’s pieces in the Heritage Design strategy. This 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition features historical exterior and interior design elements that have been reinterpreted and combined with the latest technology in a special limited edition from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Available in dealerships from autumn 2020, only 992 examples will be built, with this customized Cherry Metallic paintwork (four other exterior colours available), Fuchs-inspired rims and gold logos. Inside, you’ll find two-tone leather interior combining Bordeaux Red leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige or Black leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige, as well as the use of corduroy on seats and door trims – the return of a material used in the Porsche 356. Finally, a green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch are also included. And guess what, most of these elements are also part of an exclusive timepiece, reserved exclusively for future owners of the car.

To capture the look and feel of the car, there had to be a dedicated Porsche Design watch. Based on the 1919 Chronotimer, a watch that we recently reviewed in its blue edition here, the Austrian design studio, which produces its watches in Switzerland, has created a special watch with multiple evolutions regarding the colours and materials.

The shape of the case in this Porsche Design Chrono 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is familiar. Measuring 42mm in diameter, it features the characteristic hollowed lug module. It is highly ergonomic and contributes to the lightness of the design. Minimalist, pure, clean… This watch has a great personality as well as a sense of practicality. Crafted in glass bead-blasted and polished titanium, as most of Porsche Design watches, the main novelty here is a bronze PVD-coating on the central part of the case and lugs – a reference to the golden accents found on the car. The rest – crown, bezel, pushers and caseback – are left in untreated titanium for a nice two-tone contrast.

As for the dial, this Chrono 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is modelled after the counters of the car. With its circular-brushed pattern on a black background, it optimizes legibility with its green-coloured tracks and indexes. Hour markers and hands are filled with luminous material and two cool elements are to be noticed: the small seconds is replaced by a running indicator with “911 Targa 4S” inscription and the 11-to-12 area is red, like the red zone of a rev-counter.

References to the car don’t stop on the external parts of the watch as the movement also pays tribute to the automotive world, with a rotor shaped like the rims of this special 992 Targa Heritage Design. Powering the watch is the in-house developed Calibre WERK 01.100. Based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture, highly modified to Porsche Design’s requirements and produced by Swiss suppliers exclusively for the brand, this automatic chronograph is COSC-certified.

Last but not least, the Chrono 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design is delivered with two straps made from the same leather as the car – one in Bordeaux Red with tonal stitching and another one in black, also with matching stitching. Also new to this edition is an interchangeable strap system with pushers on the back of the strap letting you switch straps without tools. It is secured by a titanium folding buckle, also bronze PVD-coated.

  1. Like the pushers on all the newer Porsche chrono watches ! The price…..well… these aren’t for me I guess.

  2. Dear watch brands : Almost noone, anywhere, likes date windows at 4:00 or thereabouts. It ruins every single watch it’s ever used on. Date at 3 or 6, or nowhere. So many beautiful watches ruined for absolutely zero discernible reason.

  3. Overpriced boutique watch. Give a name of a luxurius brand and an ETA movement and…voila: 10900 euros. It’s a disgrace!
