The Two Patek Philippe World Time Minute Repeater 5531G Limited Edition Milano 2026
Two new white-gold versions of Patek Philippe's complex World Time Minute Repeater 5531G get Milan-themed cloisonné enamel dials to love the city day and night.
Among the special editions revealed for the Watch Art Grand Exhibition Milan 2026 are two variants of the reference 5531, first introduced in 2017 and since occupying a particular place in the modern collection. The 5531 brought together two complications strongly associated with the manufacture: the World Time display, rooted in the Louis Cottier tradition, and a minute repeater that can chime the local time for the time zone shown at 12 o’clock. The combination first appeared in a limited edition for the Art of Watches Grand Exhibition in New York before joining the regular collection in 2018.
For Milan 2026, Patek Philippe is revisiting it with two new white-gold versions, references 5531G-012 and 5531G-013. Both are limited editions of five, with the principal difference being the cloisonné enamel map at the centre of the dial: one depicts Milan by day, the other by night.
The familiar 40.2mm Calatrava-style case retains its openworked, skeletonised lugs and distinctive hand-guilloché caseband. The hobnail, or Clous de Paris, pattern also extends to the left-side slide piece. Hiding a considerable number of components inside, the case is just 11.49mm thick and measures 47.35mm lug-to-lug, with a width of 21mm at the strap attachment. Two interchangeable casebacks are supplied. One is solid white gold and the other uses sapphire crystal, with both carrying the inscription “Patek Philippe Milano 2026”. The watch has no water-resistance rating; it is described as protected against humidity and dust only.
The dial’s centrepiece is Grand Feu cloisonné enamel on an 18K gold plate. The city of Milan is represented in a map-style miniature, with the two references separated by their interpretation of the city: a daytime version with sunlit streets for 5531G-012, and a nocturnal composition for 5531G-013, with the streets lit by artificial lighting.
Around it is the World Time display, with 24 city names (in Italian) and Milan highlighted in red. A 24-hour ring provides the corresponding day/night indication for the 24 time zones. Time is indicated by the characteristic 5531 hands, including the openworked hour hand inspired by the Southern Cross constellation and a lozenge-shaped minutes hand, both in white gold.
Reference 5531 is powered by the self-winding calibre R 27 HU, measuring 32mm in diameter and 8.5mm thick. It comprises 452 parts and combines the World Time mechanism with a minute repeater operating on two classic gongs. The key feature is the patented striking mechanism that lets the repeater sound the local time for the city selected at 12 o’clock. A pusher at 2 o’clock advances the selected time zone in one-hour increments, while the left slide activates the repeater. The movement uses a 22K gold off-centre micro-rotor decorated with guilloché and runs at 21,600 vibrations/hour. Its power reserve ranges from 43 to 48 hours. As with the original 5531, the repeater gongs are attached directly to the caseband to enhance the transmission of sound.
The day reference comes on hand-stitched light brown grained calfskin with cream stitching, while the night version is worn on a midnight-blue strap with red stitching. Both feature white-gold fold-over clasps. References 5531G-012 and 5531G-013 are limited to five pieces each; price is to be confirmed. For more information, please visit www.patek.com.
