Parmigiani Fleurier’s luxury sports watch collection, the Tonda PF, was introduced in 2021. A refined, minimalist interpretation of the luxury sports watch, the Tonda PF collection is home to several complications. Originally available in 40 and 42mm case sizes, the brand responded to requests for more compact, unisex case sizes and, in 2022, introduced a smaller 36mm version of its 40mm Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, eliminating the date window. A refined and beautifully crafted time-only lineup, the Tonda PF 36mm returns with a subtle pink Alta Rosa dial.

Unlike many luxury sports watches with muscular angles and overwhelming personalities, the mantra of the Tonda PF collection is “discreet luxury”. Emphasising restraint, harmonious proportions and beautiful finishes, the Tonda PF pays homage to founder Michel Parmigiani’s designs guided by the Golden Ratio.

While its looks are refined, thanks to its classic round case with a knurled platinum bezel and elegant teardrop-shaped lugs flowing into the integrated bracelet, the Tonda PF 36mm x 8.6mm in stainless steel has a screw-down crown and lives up to its luxury sports watch classification with its 100m water-resistance rating. Its slim 8.6mm height, however, is slightly thicker than the 40mm Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, which has a 7.8mm profile.

The new Alta Rosa model adds a subtle pale pink dial colour to the collection and displays the emblematic grain d’orge (barleycorn) hand-guilloché pattern on the dial that characterises the family. The colour is somewhat similar to the recently released Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante with its Arctic Rose dial, but we will confirm this once we see the watch in the metal. Deliberately minimalist, the dial hosts hand-applied 18k gold rhodium-plated indices, skeletonised delta-shaped hands and an oval medallion at noon with the letters PF. In keeping with its understated character, there is no trace of luminescence, and the only inscription is the Swiss Made reference on the peripheral pink minutes track.

Unlike the 40mm Tonda PF powered by a micro-rotor, the 36mm relies on a central 22k gold skeletonised rotor (hence the slightly higher profile). Parmigiani’s in-house automatic 4Hz calibre PF770, designed specifically for the 36mm case, is still exceptionally slim (3.9mm) and delivers a robust 60-hour power reserve. The sapphire caseback reveals the Côtes de Genève on the bridges, the bevelled edges and the polished and sandblasted areas of the skeletonised gold rotor.

The Tonda PF Automatic 36mm Alta Rosa retails for CHF 21,900. More information at parmigiani.com.
