The (Very) Green Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition (Live Pics & Price)
Kermit the Frog is here to remind us all life is not to be taken too seriously.
The edgy ProPilot X line was upgraded last year with the Calibre 400 to power the popular series, distinguished by a straightforward, contemporary and technical design. Calibre 400, the in-house automatic movement with 120 hours of power reserve and chronometric accuracy, was presented in 2020 and demonstrated how seriously Oris was implementing its Movement Creation Programme. It was expected the Calibre 400 would equip the brand’s mid-range models; still, the 2022 editions of ProPilot X Calibre 400 came as a pleasant surprise. The new Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch will surprise you once again.
Oris chooses ProPilot X, a rather serious time instrument with excellent characteristics, as a model to be not-so-serious. The serious part comes with a 39mm titanium sharp-looking case with a knurled bezel and a large screw-down crown protected with crown guards. The multi-part case construction, with sapphire crystal from and back, ensures water resistance up to 100m. The dial indices and minute track are printed, there are no numerals, and the surface is clean. The severe-looking steel hands with Super-LumiNova inserts add to the watch’s realistic feel; it is presented with an integrated titanium bracelet with a folding clasp and Oris’ own “Lift” system for easy but secure handling. The already mentioned automatic Calibre 400 can store energy to keep the watch running for five days and boasts an accuracy of -3/+5 seconds a day, which is within the COSC parameters.
The not-so-serious part is not even the dial colour, lime green. The very light pink salmon dial from the launch of the ProPilot X Calibre 400 last year already indicated that Oris is not shy to use the brighter end of the colours book. The date window on the first of every month will show you a happy, smiling image of Kermit the Frog, the beloved character that has made generations laugh for many years. Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition is the first reference to mark the collaboration between Oris and the Muppets. Remarkably, the creative team decided to celebrate Kermit in such a subtle way. There is a TV advertisement for Oris with the talented amphibian, made in Hollywood, where Kermit sings his own “Gotta Make Time for Me” while playing his banjo. You have got to see that, too.
The new Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition will be available starting in April, and the price is CHF 4,400. For more information, please visit www.oris.ch.
