Birthday celebrations are fast becoming a tradition at Oris. Known as the Hölstein Editions, after the town in the Swiss Jura mountains where the brand was founded on June 1, 1904, the watches are generally modified variants of existing pieces. Coinciding with the brand’s 120th anniversary, the brand issues a special version of its Divers Sixty-Five, a well-designed retro dive/sports watch that is now fully dressed in a black wetsuit. Marking the first full black-on-black watch for Oris, this Oris Hölstein Edition 2024 is also equipped with the brand’s calibre 400 with a five-day power reserve and strong resistance to magnetism.

For the past four years, Oris has marked its birthday with its Hölstein Editions. In 2020, a Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph in all-bronze case and bracelet was packaged as a birthday present, followed in 2021 by a classic compact Big Crown Pointer Date equipped with the in-house calibre 400. In 2022, Oris dipped into its archives from the 1990s and released the Full Steel Worldtimer and, in 2023, embraced a purple dial version of its Aquis, also powered by calibre 400.

Released in 2020, the Oris calibre 400 boasts a 5-day power reserve and features an anti-magnetic silicon escapement, a stop-seconds device and a 10-year warranty.

Inspired by an Oris dive watch of 1965, the vintage styling and competitive price of the Divers Sixty-Five, released in 2015, caught on like wildfire. Although some quibbled with its water-resistance threshold of 100 metres, the Sixty-Five collection is founded on nostalgia for yesterday’s watches with enough robust functionality for everyday wear and tear.

The Oris Hölstein Edition 2024 abandons the brand’s more colourful dials and gives the 40mm stainless steel case, bezel and crown a black matte DLC makeover. Instead of the 12-hour scale seen on Sixty-Five models powered by calibre 400, the black bezel has a 60-minute scale with raised numerals and markings. Water-resistant to 100 metres, the sealed caseback features a special engraving of the brand’s teddy bear mascot wearing sunglasses and swimming trunks.

The dial and all the appliques are black, as are the date wheel and the Super-LumiNova on the hands and markers, without forgetting the black rubber strap with a black DLC-plated buckle.
