The New Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy “White Star”

Winter is coming at Oris with a compact bronze version of its vintage 1965 diver with a wintry white dial.

Unquestionably one of the best-selling models at Oris, the Divers Sixty-Five resurfaced after a period of dormancy in 2015 with its vintage appeal and ancestor’s traits practically intact. A year later, Oris revisited its Divers Sixty-Five in a limited edition with a larger 42mm diameter and a bronze case dedicated to Carl Brashear with a dial that would become the blueprint for the collection going forward. Bronze cases have appeared at key junctions in Oris’ timeline, including the bronze cases of the compact 38mm Cotton Candy models with eye-catching summery pastel dials. Today, Oris releases a full-bronze edition of its Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy with a bright white dial announcing the advent of winter and fun on the slopes.

Whenever Oris issues a bronze model, fans of the brand know that a regular production model is probably lurking in the pipeline. Like the first 2016 Oris Carl Brashear time-and-date signalling the debut of the new face of the collection, the 43mm bronze Carl Brashear Chronograph of 2018 heralded the launch of the debut of the regular production chronograph. In 2021, Oris released its Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy sub-collection in bronze cases and bracelets with pastel-coloured dials, marking the advent of a new, more compact 38mm case size that hit the sweet spot. Buoyed by the popularity of the bronze 38mm Cotton Candy models, Oris released the same dial colours in stainless steel cases.

Since summer is also the harbinger of autumn, Oris toned down the chromatic party and released a handsome Candy Cotton “Sepia”  model in a 38mm bronze case. Following in “Sepia’s” footsteps, the new “White Star” in a 38mm bronze case and bronze bracelet dons a more wearable and versatile white dial.

Bronze reacts with carbon dioxide and moisture and, over time, develops a unique greenish patina, meaning that no two bronze watches will age in the same way. The 38mm unisex bronze case has a notched unidirectional rotating bronze bezel with a sandblasted finish and a 60-minute scale in relief. To prevent skin allergies, the screwed caseback is made from stainless steel and, coupled with the screw-down bronze crown, ensures a 100m depth rating. An ultra-domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, which adds to the vintage charm.

The warm tones of the bronze case are replicated on the indices and hands of the attractive white dial. The applied indices, for example, have bronze-coloured frames and are filled with a beige Super-LumiNova, matching the central hands. The date window is at 6 o’clock with a white background and black numerals, and the inscriptions on the dial and minutes track are printed in a golden colour to match the bronze case.

Matching the brushed finishes of the case, the bronze 3-link bracelet is surprisingly light and has a flattering taper and a folding clasp. Powering this addition to the Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy series is the Oris 733 calibre, a modified version of the reliable Sellita SW 200-1 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve.

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy “White Star” joins the regular collection and retails for CHF 2,850. It will be available in October 2024. More information at Oris.ch.
