Oris Aquis Date Kelp Forest Limited Edition
Oris once again turns its attention to threatened underwater ecosystems with a special edition of the Aquis Date, featuring a textured green dial inspired by kelp forests.
Oris supports environmental causes through its watches, like the Aquis Date Yangtze Jiangtun or the New York Harbour limited editions, participating in projects dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems and bringing attention to issues beyond watchmaking. The new Aquis Date Kelp Forest Limited Edition is made with Francis Pérez, the award-winning underwater photographer and long-time Oris ambassador. It highlights the decline of kelp forests, underwater habitats that shelter marine life and help absorb carbon.
The watch keeps the design of the 41.5mm Aquis Date updated in 2024 with revised proportions, more ergonomic lugs and a redesigned bracelet. The 300m water-resistant stainless steel case, brushed and polished, measures 12.9mm thick and 49mm from lug to lug. A screw-in security crown with protective guards and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a green ceramic insert and graduated minutes scale provide the familiar equipment. The domed sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating on the inside, while a screwed stainless steel caseback carries a special kelp engraving.
The ocean-green dial has a three-dimensional printed texture inspired by kelp strands swaying in underwater currents, with variations in green and gold tones creating a changing surface as light moves across the dial. The gold-outlined central hours and minutes hands and applied hour markers are treated with Super-LumiNova. The lollipop part of the central running seconds hand is also SLN-treated. The date remains at 6 o’clock.
The watch is powered by Oris calibre 733 (Sellita SW200-1 base, alternative to the ETA 2824) and provides hours, minutes, central seconds and a date display. It operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers a 41-hour power reserve, with a stop-seconds function for precise time setting.
The Aquis Date Kelp Forest is worn on a stainless steel bracelet, brushed and polished. It is secured with a folding clasp featuring a quick-adjustment system and a quick-change mechanism. Limited to 1,000 pieces, the Oris Aquis Date Kelp Forest Limited Edition is priced at CHF 2,450. For more information, please visit oris.ch.
