As we all know, the connection between Omega and the Olympic – Summer or Winter – Games is one of the strongest when it comes to official timekeeping. Since 1932, the Biel-based brand has fulfilled this role 31 times and is soon to mark its 32nd participation as official timekeeper. Indeed, in exactly 100 days, the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 will begin. And today, Omega releases its second Cortina-themed watch, following the handsome “dog-leg” Seamaster 37mm Milano Cortina 2026. Now it’s time for this new Speedmaster 38mm Milano Cortina 2026 to be presented, and there’s more to discover than just a new colour scheme.

The Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 will be officially launched on February 6th, 2026, and, as you’d expect, Omega will be once again the official timekeeper of the event. While Omega has fulfilled this role since 1932, its first experience of winter events took place at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936. At Milano Cortina, Omega will be timing all of the 116 events across 8 sports, including ski mountaineering for the very first time.  For the occasion, the brand launches a special edition based on the compact, often women-oriented Speedmaster 38mm. But, as we’ll see, this new version isn’t just a game of colours and materials. Multiple details all around make this Speedmaster Milano Cortina 2026 somewhat of a new model in the collection.

A discreet member of the collection, the Speedmaster 38mm is often seen as a feminine variant of the classic Moonwatch. While this is now true, specifically with the latest releases that are fitted with fully paved bezels, there was a time when Omega was offering a more compact and automatic version of the Speedmaster for men, which was nicknamed “Speedmaster Reduced” by the model’s fans. The current collection, with the automatic Speedmaster 38mm, comprises mostly feminine iterations with oval-shaped sub-counters and a bi-material bezel with a thin contrasted tachymeter scale or diamonds. Only a handful of versions could be categorised as unisex.

The new Speedmaster Milano Cortina 2026

Thanks to several small but effective updates, the new Speedmaster 38mm Milano Cortina 2026 somehow brings back the concept of a Speedmaster Reduced – maybe we can imagine this to become the base for a future evolution of the collection… The base of the Speedmaster 38 remains, with a 38mm diameter, traditional asymetrical case with lyre-shaped lugs, and a more robust caseband on the right side, framing the crown and pushers – classic Speedmaster, only smaller, shorter (44.96mm lug-to-lug) but not thinner at 14.75mm, due to the automatic movement inside. The watch is also 100m water-resistant, which is a pleasant feature compared to the 50m WR of a Professional Moonwatch.

There are some notable changes, first regarding finishing, as this Speedmaster Milano Cortina 2026 now has an entirely polished steel case. The caseback, screwed to the case, is solid steel and decorated with a stamped medallion depicting the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic logo. On top is a box-shaped sapphire crystal, and the latter is framed by an unprecedented bezel. Replacing the bi-material, two-tone bezels usually found on 38mm Speedies is a blue ceramic insert with a white enamel tachymeter scale, using the Moonwatch’s classic DON (dot-over-ninety) layout. This gives the Speedmaster Milano Cortina a much more traditional look than before.

The dial is the part of this edition that has the most Olympic-ed theme. This white varnished dial has been overlaid with a light blue frosting, with a finger trace that runs through the frosting, creating a pattern inspired by the “2” of the Milano Cortina 2026 emblem. Also, the sub-counters have been varnished and finished with a special azurage technique that resembles a groomed ski slope. The result is, however, fairly discreet and imperceptible from a certain distance. All other elements of the dial – logos, tracks, numerals – are rendered in blue, including the applied markers and main hands, with a blue CVD coating. The central seconds hand has a subtle blue gradient and, as a final touch, the dark blue Milano Cortina 2026 typography appears on the date display at 6 o’clock, on the 26th of the month. Other dates have a classic font.

Automatic COSC movement

Under the solid back is the Omega Calibre 3330, an automatic, integrated column-wheel chronograph movement. Sharing its architecture with the Longines L688, it is a heavily reworked version of the self-winding ETA 7753. In the context of this Speedmaster 38mm Milano Cortina, it is fitted with a co-axial escapement, a silicon balance spring and a free sprung-balance. This 4Hz chronograph movement stores 52h of power reserve, and it is chronometer-certified by the COSC (it’s one of the few remaining Omega movements not to be Master Chronometer rated).

Nixon-style bracelet

This Olympic edition of the Speemaster 38mm is worn on a new bracelet, which uses the same design as the current Moonwatch watches – a so-called Nixon-style bracelet, with short, rounded links. Made of brushed and polished steel, it is closed by a thin, ribbed clasp with push buttons and the brand’s patented comfort release adjustment system with 2 positions and 2.30mm extension.

Not only does this bracelet look very good (as it does on the current Moonwatch), but it is also soft, flexible and practical, with a pleasant vintage feel.
