MING Says Goodbye to its Moonphase Watch with the Final 37.05 Lunatic Edition
A curtain call for Ming’s moon phase and date watch as it departs in a flare of luminescence.

Frustrated by not finding a watch he liked at a price he could afford, multi-talented founder Ming Thein decided to create his own brand. Based in Kuala Lumpur, the design-led indie brand has a distinctive and recognisable aesthetic built on contemporary design, where minimalism, luminescence, layering and colour are key players. Ever-evolving, Ming’s discontinuation of its very first 17-series resulted in the redesigned 37-series, which includes the 37.05 Moonphase model introduced in 2021. Following the second-generation 37.05 Moonphase with twinkling stars, Ming bids farewell to the model with the third and final take of the complication, the Lunatic, with even more luminous features to light up the skies during its final voyage.
As a member of Ming’s 37-series, the Lunatic comes in the collection’s signature 38mm curvaceous case with a large, notched crown and sweeping, pagoda-style lugs. Crafted in stainless steel, the 100m water-resistant case has a thickness of 11.9mm (including crystals) and is finished with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. The dial and caseback are fitted with domed sapphire crystals with double-sided anti-reflective coating.
The third-generation Moonphase pumps up the lume and illuminates the moon phase function and the date with light blue luminescent material for a more dramatic effect. Featuring a different layout, the moon phase display now occupies a far more prominent position on the dial. The static, white crescent-shaped moon in the top half of the dial is surrounded by a rotating disc with different patterns and luminescence to indicate its current phase.
Borrowing design cues from the 37.02 Minimalist, the Lunatic shares the same hour indices treated with Ming’s signature Polar White luminescent material. In contrast, the hands are finished with blue-emitting Super-LumiNova X1 inserts. Like all Ming watches, the watch’s personality changes significantly in different lighting conditions. Not only does the metallised sapphire dial reveal glimpses of the movement, including the hidden portions of the date and moon disc, but it also produces an “inversion” effect, making the dial appear inky black or silvery depending on the light.
The 37.05 Lunatic is powered by a heavily reworked manual-winding Sellita SW288-1 movement. The matte anthracite-coated bridges are skeletonised with a contrasting portion of the rhodium main train bridge finished with circular brushing. Running at a frequency of 28,800vph, it provides a relatively limited 40-hour power reserve. The movement also features a quick-set function for the moon phase and date.
The MING 37.05 Lunatic is paired with a comfortable white FKM rubber strap and steel tuck buckle. It is a limited edition of 100 watches and retails for CHF 5,250. It can be ordered at www.ming.watch or authorised retail partners from 13:00 GMT on 24 September 2025. Deliveries start immediately and will continue until November 2025.
