MeisterSinger’s single-handed watches have the distinct advantage of being immediately recognisable. Although there might be other brands with one-handers, MeisterSinger is the indisputable leader of the pack. With an emphasis on minimalist German design, MeisterSinger’s mono-handed watches offer a more relaxed approach to reading the time, but should not be equated with simple watches, far from it. MeisterSinger’s portfolio features sophisticated models like the chiming Bell Hora, the Stratoscope and the Pangaea Day Date. As it approaches its 25th anniversary, the brand introduces the Archao, a new collection of bold, contemporary models with a profusion of luminescent elements.

The Archao comes in an imposing 43mm case with a thickness of 12.3mm and 50m water-resistance. Thanks to the striking jet-black DLC-coated case, the smooth, matte outer body is not only more rugged and hard-wearing but also appears smaller.

Available in black, red, or blue, the dial layout is a signature MeisterSinger design. Mastering how to read time with a single hand is a cinch: every marker placed between the hours represents five minutes. The three white markers placed between the hours represent 15-minute intervals, and the 30-minute marker is slightly thicker. For more precise readings, light grey dots along the perimeter indicate five-minute intervals. If the single hand points to the third white marker between 1 and 2 o’clock, for example, the time is 1:45.

However, the big news here is the incorporation of luminescent elements. Instead of applying luminescent paint, the hour markers, the double-digit numerals, and the needle-shaped hand are crafted from white LumiBlocks, a material that stores light like a battery during the day and releases it at night. Viewed in the dark, the glowing green-emission luminescence enhances legibility no end.

Redesigned in a more contemporary key, the single hand appears to be divided into two, with hollowed-out areas in each section. Other details, such as the grained texture of the central area of the dial and the contrasting smooth peripheral track, reflect the latest trends in dial design.

The name Archao, derived from the Greek archaios for “primal” or “original”, is prominently featured on the caseback in a transparent script set against a volcanic-inspired background with seams of red lava. Beneath the rugged volcanic activity is a standard Sellita SW200 automatic with a modest 38-hour power reserve.

The new MeisterSinger Archao watches are paired with robust saddle leather straps with contrasting white stitching. The three Archao models are available for order on the brand’s website and retail for EUR 2,390 each. (incl. tax).
