The Maen x Horoverse Brooklyn 36 Mahjong Limited Edition
Swedish watch brand Maen teams up with HK and Macau-based horology media platform Horoverse.
More than just a game, Mahjong is a cultural bridge connecting global Chinese communities and the East and West, historically serving as a crucial medium for social bonding. And today, it serves as a source of inspiration for the creation of a new watch, or to be precise, the hand-carved Mahjong tiles are used as a base for the latest collaboration between Swedish watch microbrand Maen and Hong Kong and Macau horology media platform Horoverse. Based on the brand’s classic triple calendar watch, here’s the new Maen x Horoverse Brooklyn 36 Mahjong Limited Edition.
A relatively young brand from Sweden with Dutch roots, Maen has made a name for itself with its Manhattan collection, an original take on the integrated sports watch concept. However, there’s more to the brand than this, as we’ve seen when reviewing the Skymaster 38 MKIII, a cool and accessible racing chronograph, or when discovering a watch that made quite some noise, the Jumping Hour made in collaboration with Nico Leonard. Today, the brand reveals another collaboration, this time honouring Asian culture.
Following their first collaboration, the Neon City watch based on the Manhattan model, Maen once again teams up with Horoverse, but this time for something more original and more classic at the same time, the Brooklyn 36 Mahjong Limited Edition. Inspired by the local culture of Hong Kong and Macau, where Horoverse originates, this watch utilises the Brooklyn 36 Triple Calendar as a blueprint and then adds clever inspirations from the Mahjong game. The technical base remains identical, featuring a compact 36mm case that’s nicely finished with brushed and polished surfaces, a pleasant bezel with radially brushed finishing, and a box-shaped sapphire crystal. With its modest dimensions and resolutely classic flair, it’s a watch that’s meant for daily use.
The dial is where most of the transformation takes place, utilising a colour palette that echoes the classic Mahjong colours (green, red, blue, and white) while maintaining the watch’s understated texture. The base of the dial is green-toned and features recessed silver-toned and grained sub-counters, as well as a pan-pie-like minute track. The calendar indications replace classic Arabic numerals and Occidental words with Traditional Chinese characters for the month and day of the week displays. Several Easter eggs can be found: the first lunar month (Zhengyue) is deliberately aligned with the Gregorian month of January, a nod to the Chinese New Year. The date wheel has also been customised, revealing the “1-Bamboo” (the Bird) on the 1st of the month, and the Green Dragon “Fat” symbolising wealth, on the 8th.
Under the specifically decorated solid caseback lies an automatic movement from Miyota, the Calibre 9122, featuring a triple calendar function. The watch is worn on a specially selected green textile strap that presents the unique tactile feel of a traditional Mahjong table. Finally, an authentic Mahjong tile accompanies each special edition watch, hand-carved by a local master in Hong Kong, along with an illustrated poster detailing the history of the tiles.
The Maen x Horoverse Brooklyn 36 Mahjong will be available globally as a strict 24-hour time-limited edition on Maen’s website (dedicated page here), starting March 22nd, 2026, at 8PM Hong Kong time. The watch will be priced at EUR 899.
