The New Louis Erard Régulateur Gravé Noir, with Reimagined Sector Dial

This new brand's creation showcases a mix of two distinctive dial designs.

Sector dials, with their unique segmented layouts designed over a century ago for improved readability, have a lasting appeal that continues to inspire modern watchmakers. Today, many brands incorporate sector dial watches into their collections, and Louis Erard – founded in 1929 during the peak of this design’s popularity – is no exception. Its Excellence Petite Seconde series offers a variety of colourful models, including the lovely Petite Seconde Terracotta, as a fresh interpretation of this classic style. Louis Erard’s latest release, Le Régulateur Gravé Noir, builds on the sector dial’s clarity and legibility, blending it with the brand’s signature regulator layout for a new look.

The new Louis Erard Régulateur Gravé joins the brand’s Noirmont Métiers d’Art collection as a permanent addition alongside the Regulator with the Grand Feu Enamel dial introduced earlier this year as a limited edition; the two watches share the same case design and specifications. Made of stainless steel and thoroughly polished, the three-piece 50m water-resistant case measures 39mm in diameter and 12.82mm thick, with a 45.9mm lug-to-lug. It is topped with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and features a display caseback. A signature Louis Erard element is the crown decorated with fir tree images on its side and the brand’s logo on top.

The black dial of the Régulateur Gravé Noir proves creativity is at the brand’s core, as it merges sector-style segmentation with a regulator display. Minutes are read via the central hand, while hours and running seconds appear in vertically aligned sub-dials just below the 12 and above the 6 o’clock markers. Every element is engraved and finished in rose gilt, including the railroad track for minutes – marked at 15 and 45, the hours sub-dial prominently features 12 to denote noon and midnight, with other indices as blocks of varying lengths and thicknesses. The polished, rose-gilt fir tree-shaped hands are a signature touch, and the dial is left logo-free.

Turning the watch over reveals the Sellita SW266-1 élaboré-grade automatic movement, featuring an openworked rotor with the Louis Erard logo in black lacquer. This movement runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers a 38-hour power reserve.

The watch is paired with a beige calf leather strap, detailed with tone-on-tone stitching, and fastened with a polished stainless steel pin buckle. Now part of Louis Erard’s permanent collection, the Régulateur Gravé Noir is priced at CHF 2,900 (excluding tax).
