The Chinese Lunar New Year, which kicks off on the 17th of February 2026 and lasts until the 5th of February 2027, welcomes the seventh animal of the zodiac, the Horse. Given the importance of the Moon in determining the cycle of the 12 zodiac animals, Longines has selected a moon phase model from its elegant, classic Master Collection for the occasion. Celebrating the Year of the Horse, the watch is a limited edition of 2,026 pieces, decorated with symbolic cultural allusions and an engraving of Peon Xu’s Galloping Horse on the gilt rotor of the movement.

Following in the footsteps of the Longines Heritage Year of the Dragon and Conquest Year of the Snake, the 2026 Master Collection Year of the Horse doesn’t display the zodiac animal on the dial and shares a deep red sunray-brushed dial with a dramatic gradient effect, darkening at the perimeter. Red, after all, symbolises good fortune, joy, prosperity and protection in Chinese culture. Knowing that the combination of red and gold is even more auspicious in Chinese tradition, the dial features gilt appliques with golden indices, a golden Longines winged logo, and gold-plated leaf-shaped hour and minute hands. As with other editions, the minutes are displayed on the inclined flange.

The phases of the moon are a fundamental aspect of the Chinese Lunisolar calendar and are displayed on the dial at 6 o’clock with an integrated pointer date. Matching the red and gold colour scheme, the golden moon transits in a starry sky, while the golden leaf-shaped pointer hand indicates the date.

Peon Xu is a renowned modern Chinese painter whose iconic galloping horses blend traditional Chinese ink art with Western painting. In partnership with the Peon Art Museum in China, Xu’s Galloping Horse has been engraved into the rotor, overseen by Qingping Xu, the artist’s son. Representing courage, freedom, speed and strength, the seventh zodiac animal is depicted in full stride and in constant motion, thanks to the movement of the rotor.

The stainless steel case, with its 42mm diameter and thickness of 11.2mm, is polished, has a 30m water-resistance and is fitted with transparent sapphire crystals front and back. The automatic calibre L899.5 (based on ETA A31.L91) was upgraded for Longines with a slightly reduced frequency of 25,200 vibrations/hour and a longer power reserve of 72 hours.

The Longines Master Collection Year of the Horse comes with a black alligator leather strap with a steel triple-folding clasp. A limited edition of 2,026 models, it retails for EUR 3,100, CHF 2,650 or USD 3,400. More details at longines.com.
