The Junghans Meister Chronoscope in its Sportiest Attire, now with Steel Bracelet

Junghans' classic chronograph watch becomes summer-ready.

Once one of the largest watch companies in the world, German brand Junghans was founded in 1861 by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler and started as a clockmaker. Mostly famous for its collaboration with Swiss Bauhaus designer Max Bill, the company kept on bringing nicely designed and accessible watches over the years. Aside from the Max Bill collection, the Meister range represents the company at its best, with the Chronoscope being its flagship model. This usually rather elegant and nicely curved watch becomes sportier, now with brightly coloured accents and a steel bracelet, just in time for summer.

A fine piece with a skeel design full of curves, the Junghans Meister Chronoscope has been around for several years already, always combined with a leather strap, and available in restrained, discreet colours. Besides the classic white dial model here, we’ve recently seen a trendy version with a green dial or a subtly elegant taupe-coloured model. It’s time for this chronograph to become bolder.

The new version of the Meister Chronoscope retains the classic architecture of this watch, with its relatively compact case of 40.7mm. Entirely polished, the case is notably rounded, with no sharp angles and a clean design that combines concave and convex shapes. While on paper the 13.9mm thickness might seem rather high, the curvature of the profile makes it virtually slimmer, a line that follows from top to bottom, with a domed sapphire crystal and a bulbous caseback. The almost absence of a bezel also contributes to its sleek, appealing design.

New for this edition is a dial that has a slightly smoked effect – darker on the periphery – and bright coloured accents, with all the hands of sub-counters in varnished yellow. The curved style continues on the dial too, with a domed effect and striking bowl-shaped sub-counters for the chronograph. The polished hands and applied markers also follow these concave lines for a consistent result. The display is a classic 6-9-12 chronograph with a day-date function at 3 o’clock.

The movement, as seen on a version worn on a leather strap.

The other novelty for the Junghans Meister Chronoscope is a newly-developed stainless steel bracelet, unique to this collection. Brushed and polished, with a rather elegant multi-link design, it adds a touch of modernity and versatility to this watch, powered by a Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph, visible through the caseback.

Now available from the brand and its retailers, the new full-steel Junghans Meister Chronoscope is priced at EUR 2,850. For more details, please visit www.junghans.de.

  1. The JUNGHANS MEISTER CHRONOSCOPE is a winner, however, it’s a bit large for my wrist. JUNGHANS are always on the cutting edge of design. Even though the JUNGHANS MEISTER CHRONOSCOPE is a bit large for my wrist, I would consider making the purchase anyway.

  2. Ho hum 2.9k€ for 7750 I thought JUNGHANS could do better and are we not in the smaller case phase ?

  3. I’m not sure why you say the bracelet is new? I’ve had mine in 2021 with the same bracelet, and I had seen it before. It’s beautiful and very comfortable.
