Junghans is better known for its Bauhaus-inspired pieces, such as the Max Bill series, but the German watchmaker has also ventured into the pilots’ and sports territories. With the new Aquaris series, the brand expands its Sport collection by adding four new references: the Aquaris Diver with green or orange accents, and the more lifestyle-oriented Aquaris Sport Red and Aquaris Blue, all robust (not to say massive) dive watches designed to perform underwater yet remain versatile enough for everyday wear – if you dare.

The Aquaris series is presented in a huge cushion-shaped, compressor-style stainless steel case measuring 46.9mm in diameter and 14.5mm thick (same as used in the brand’s 1972 Automatic FIS Edition in 2021), emphasising the watch’s rugged nature. A central flank protection on the left shields the two screw-down crowns positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock. The lower crown, decorated with a Junghans star logo, controls winding and time-setting, while the upper crown, marked by an engraving of a fish school, operates the internal rotating bezel. As expected on a professional dive watch, this ring rotates only counterclockwise, preventing accidental extension of dive time. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with AR coating on both sides; the caseback is solid. Water resistance is 500m.

The Aquaris Diver sub-collection is the most purpose-built model in the lineup. It features a matte dark grey dial with large applied markers and prominent hands, all filled with X1 Grade Green lume. This high-performance substance emits an intense green glow once charged. The inner diving scale highlights the first 15 minutes in either green or orange, matching the colour on the arrow-shaped minutes hand.

The Aquaris Sport retain the same technical specifications but introduces a slightly more versatile sports look. The sunray-brushed dials, available in vivid red or deep blue, are paired with colour-matched internal rotating rings. Hands and applied indices remain generously filled with luminous material, maintaining excellent legibility.

Powering the Aquaris collection is the Junghans calibre J830, an automatic movement reportedly based on the Grand Seiko 9S51 and made by the Japanese watchmaker for Junghans. The movement incorporates several modifications developed by the brand, including a proprietary gear-train bridge, rotor, and balance cock. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve. A soft-iron protective layer surrounds the movement to provide greater resistance to magnetic fields.

All Aquaris models are delivered with a satin-finished stainless steel bracelet and a diver’s clasp. The bracelet integrates two extension systems: a 22mm on-the-fly adjustment developed by Junghans and an additional 26mm diver extension, to be worn comfortably over a wetsuit. Each watch also comes with an interchangeable synthetic rubber strap. The Aquaris Sport Red is paired with a black rubber strap, while the Aquaris Sport Blue comes with a dial-matching blue strap. Both are equipped with a Junghans stainless steel folding clasp and quick-release bars.

The price is EUR 2,790 for the Aquaris Diver, and EUR 2,690 for the Red and Blue Aquaris Sport references. The watches will be available in May 2026. For more details, please visit www.junghans.de.
