Pre-SIHH 2018 – Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface With Casa Fagliano Strap

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface With Casa Fagliano Strap

The Reverso… A classic among the classics. It is indeed such a watch, however, there’s nothing wrong with a good old classic watch and the Reverso proves it after almost 90 years of existence (its creation dates back 1931). Done in dozens of variations, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces a new model as part of the Pre-SIHH 2018 collection: a Reverso Tribute Duoface elegantly dressed in pink gold and combined with a superb leather strap done by Argentinian bootmaker Casa Fagliano.

As said, the Reverso is a true classic, not to say an icon. Created in the early 1930s for Polo players who wanted to have the face of their watches protected during the games, the concept of the reversible case quickly gave ideas to watchmakers to bring something more. While on a normal version of the Reverso, the backside is often used to show a personalised engraving, Jaeger-LeCoultre also provided some mechanical content on this secondary side, creating a watch that can be worn on both faces. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface we have today is such a watch.

One the main side of this Reverso Tribute Duoface, you’ll see the time, and the time only. Dauphine hands for the hours and minutes, a small second at 6 and the classic Art-Deco styling for the indexes and tracks. Elegant, refined and combined here with a slate grey sunray plate. Housed in a warm-toned pink gold case measuring here 49.4mm x 29.9mm (thus being the large size for the Reverso collection), the second face displays a Second-time zone and 24-hour day/night indicator. This second face is however displayed on a silvered dial, with dual finishing: “Clous de Paris” guilloché on the background, and an opaline finish in the centre. To power this Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface is the Calibre 854/2, a 167-component hand-wound movement with 42-hour power reserve, of course manufactured in-house.

The main attraction for this new edition certainly is the strap, resulting from a collaboration with famed Argentinian bootmakers. Indeed, Casa Fagliano has created a two-tone cordovan leather strap, specially designed and hand-crafted for each piece by these famous Argentinian leather artisans. The strap is done in light brown with a darker brown shade on the turned-over flap and features a tone-on-tone overstitching on both sides of the dial’s gadroons. This gives a nice and slightly vintage touch to the classic Reverso watch.

  1. It’s about time someone is paying attention to the strap. Too many creative watches are burdened with routine unimagined and pedestrian reptile straps.
