Rallying the Troops in Support of the LA Firefighters with a Unique William Wood USA Fire Exit Watch Auctioned for Charity
A one-of-a-kind piece in support of the brave firefighting men and women battling the LA fires!
Fire can be an absolutely devastating, unforgiving thing. We’ve all seen the harrowing images coming from LA, where wildfires have been wreaking havoc through large swathes of the coastal city. Thousands of people have lost everything, abandoning their homes and lives to escape the fire, with many tragically losing their lives as well. In a herculean effort, the brave firefighting men and women have been battling hard to get things under control. In support of those who risk it all to help others, fire-fighting-inspired company William Wood Watches has put this unique USA Fire Exit Watch up for auction, and all proceeds will be donated to the LA Fire Foundation. So, with that in mind, and in an attempt to make things a little bit brighter and better for others, we invite you to bid and bid hard for this noble cause!
The case for the USA Fire Exit Watch differs nothing from the original Fire Exit Watch introduced last year, except in colour. The 41mm wide 316L steel case is still finished in gunmetal grey, but the unidirectional rotating bezel now has a white glass insert with a red 60-minute graduation instead of a green one. As before, the scale is printed in luminescent material. The highly domed sapphire crystal on top bumps the height to 13.5mm, which is perfectly acceptable. The water-resistance rating is 100m, so it’s perfectly equipped for pretty much all circumstances.
The face of the watch has also changed from green to white, with the main dial finished in a light, textured white tone. The black minutes ring incorporates the semi-floating hour markers, which are now red. The arrows at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock are still there, as is the applied fire helmet logo, which has a luminous outline. The date and day discs are finished in red, with white numerals and images. The special feature here is the Fire Exit Sign Man representing the day of the week in seven unique images:
- Monday – Stuck in Traffic
- Tuesday – Coffee at Work
- Wednesday – Taking Work Calls
- Thursday – Exercise
- Friday – TGIF!
- Saturday – BBQ time (but do it safe!!)
- Sunday – Sunday Night Football!
The unique style of the Fire Exit Watch’s dial is also extended to the back of the watch. A rectangular window reveals the rotor and another Fire Exit Sign Man running for the nearest exit. As the rotor spins, you can see him whizzing by in his pursuit of safety. The watch is powered by a Sellita SW220, which beats at a frequency of 28,800vph and has a power reserve of 41 hours. Next to the central hours, minutes and seconds, it displays the date and the day of the week.
William Wood will put the USA Fire Exit Watch up for auction on the brand’s website on February 1st, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the LA Fire Foundation to support the firefighting men and women extinguishing the LA fires. It comes on the familiar upcycled red fire hose strap, fitted with a gunmetal grey steel buckle and quick-release spring bars. Additionally, William Wood supplies a second upcycled fire hose strap in California Fire Hose orange. The watch is also presented in William Wood’s fire alarm presentation box and will come with antique brass cufflinks. Aside from bidding on the watch in support of the LA Fire Foundation, William Wood welcomes any donation, large or small.
