Back in 1972, Porsche Design introduced the Chronograph I, the first all-black watch inspired by Porsche cockpit gauges. By 1975, the design evolved into brushed stainless steel. This year, to mark the brand´s retail partnership with the Watches of Switzerland Group, the new Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition swaps steel for bare, glass bead-blasted titanium, giving the piece a contemporary edge while staying true to the original’s clean lines.

The 40.8mm diameter and 14.15mm thick Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition titanium case keeps its purposeful silhouette and understated matte finish, a first outside Porsche’s exclusive car-owner watches. Details like the screw-down crown, pushers, and solid caseback echo the original’s tool-watch spirit, while caseback engravings of the historic logo, “1975,” and the limited number add a collectable touch. A 100m water resistance underlines its daily practicality.

The matte-black dial stays true to the classic Porsche 911 dashboard look: high-contrast white numerals, baton hands, a red chronograph seconds hand, and the signature tri-compax layout: small seconds at 9, 30-minute counter at 12, 12-hour counter at 6. The day-date sits at 3 o’clock. Super-LumiNova ensures nighttime clarity, while a tachymeter scale reinforces its motorsport roots. The Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is powered by the in-house WERK 01.240, an automatic, COSC-certified chronograph movement with flyback function, running at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering a 48-hour power reserve.

The watch is worn on a glass bead-blasted titanium bracelet with an integrated folding clasp and fine adjustment, matching the case for a seamless look and feel. Limited to 350 numbered pieces, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is priced at EUR 8,950 and available exclusively at selected Watches of Switzerland boutiques, Porsche Design Stores, and Porsche Centres. A Numbered Edition with slight variations is set to follow, ensuring that this tribute to the stainless steel Chronograph 1 lives on as a cornerstone of the brand’s modern watchmaking lineup.

  1. Having seen many models in person they are very well made but for the asking price I would personally like to see a column wheel movement and maybe even 20bar WR like Sinn and Guinand, two obvious examples from Germany to make a point.
