The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF collection features three remarkable timepieces that aim to unravel the complexities of various calendar complications that pay tribute to the rich cultural and historical significance of different “tools to organize days”. The collection includes the complete Chinese Xiali calendar, the Western Gregorian calendar, and the Islamic Hijri calendar. The Hijri calendar wristwatch was initially introduced in 2019 and made a comeback in 2023 in the Tonda PF case with a dial design that was subtly refined. Now, Parmigiani Fleurier unveils the latest iteration of its Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar.

Crafted with attention to detail, the polished and satin-finished steel case boasts a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 11.2mm, accentuated by a knurled platinum bezel. At the 3 o’clock position rests a fluted screw-in crown, complemented by the recessed calendar correctors in its flank. An additional corrector pusher is placed on the opposite side. Safeguarding the intricate dial is an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, ensuring uninterrupted admiration of the wonders beneath.

The Viridian green dial, embellished with Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché, is a captivating time-keeping canvas. At the centre, 18ct gold rhodium-plated skeleton delta-shaped hands gracefully glide, guided by applied 18ct gold rhodium-plated indices, offering elegance and precision. The central seconds hand, rhodium-plated yet forged from steel, traces its path along the crisp outer minutes/seconds ring, a visual testament to the watch at work.

The Hijri perpetual calendar complication unfolds gracefully through an arrangement of subdials and a moon phase indicator. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the precision moon phase with an aventurine disc is divided into two parts: the upper portion reflects the moon’s phase as observed from the Northern Hemisphere, and the lower part mirrors the perspective from the Southern Hemisphere. At 12 o’clock, a dedicated subdial tracks the 30-year cycle of the Hijri calendar; at 3 o’clock, another subdial presents the current month number in Arabic characters, with the revered month of Ramadan highlighted in a vibrant red hue, symbolizing its significance.

In a symphony of precision, the counter at 9 o’clock delineates the current day number within the month, employing a visual language where a simple line represents odd numbers, while even numbers are rendered in Arabic script. As the lunar-based Islamic calendar months alternate between 29 and 30 days, the golden symbol at the 12 o’clock position denotes the latter, while a subtle aperture below indicates the number of days in the current month, its display turning golden when the month extends to its thirtieth day.

The beating heart of the Parmigiani Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar is the same PF009 calibre that was used in its earlier counterparts; it provides a 48-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour. Comprising an assembly of 310 components, it unveils some of its inner beauty through the transparent sapphire caseback, showcasing decoration like the Côtes de Genève and bevelled bridges, with the skeletonized rotor cast in platinum and adorned with the PF logo.

Completing the ensemble is a meticulously crafted stainless steel bracelet, polished and satin-finished, secured with a folding clasp for elegance and practicality. Priced at CHF 62,500, this masterpiece beckons to explore the intricacies of the Hijri calendar.

  1. @Thomas – It is 100m or 10ATM for this one, like many models from the Tonda PF collection. Some are indeed 60m WR (like the GMT Rattrapante) but this one has been confirmed to be 100m
