Parmigiani Fleurier Unleashes Alligator Straps For Three Tonda PF Models
Bring out the gators! The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, Chronograph and Annual Calendar can now be ordered with a dressier scaly alternative to the integrated bracelet.
Since Guido Terreni was appointed CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier, the brand has been busy streamlining its collections and forging a coherent identity. Families like Kalpa, Pershing and Bugatti have been whisked away to focus all efforts on the Tonda, especially the Tonda PF luxury sports watch. Launched in 2021, the Tonda PF is a refined interpretation of the luxury sports watch with sleek, integrated bracelets and a host of complications to spice up the offer. Today, the brand announces that three Tonda PF models – Micro-Rotor, Chronograph and Annual Calendar – in 18k rose gold cases will now be available with alligator skin straps. Fear not; these alligator-strap models are designed to bring warmth and an extra degree of dressiness to the Tonda PS and will co-exist peacefully with the regular bracelet Tonda PFs.
The three models given handsome alligator straps were, in fact, the inaugural models of the Tonda PF collection in 2021. Designed to coincide with Parmigiani Fleurier’s 25th anniversary, the Tonda PF collection was the brand’s new road map singled out by Guido Terreni. Initially offered in steel or luxurious rose gold cases with integrated bracelets, these three watches were the official face of things to come. Shared features across all models are the PF logo in a gold oval cartouche, the grain d’orge hand-guilloché dial pattern (not featured on the platinum split-seconds chrono or the flying tourbillon), the gold delta-shaped skeletonised hands, the hand-knurled bezel, the short applied gold indices, the teardrop-shaped lugs, and of course, the high-end in-house movements.
Dressy gators
Although the specifications regarding case size, finishings and movements are identical to former Tonda PF models, the look of the watches has changed quite dramatically. Fitted with elegant alligator straps in Brown, Milan Blue and Grey (matching the dial colour), the straps sit flush against the case and are fitted with a new rose gold asymmetrical triple-blade buckle with a PF logo in relief.
Tonda PF Micro-Rotor
Simplicity, refinement and luxurious finishings are operative words when defining the Tonda PF collection. The Micro-Rotor, with time-and-date functions, is the most straightforward model in the collection. With its lean profile and grey alligator strap, it could very well be reappraised as a dress watch. Like earlier Micro-Rotors, the case measures 40mm across and has a lean height of 7.8mm with elegant teardrop-shaped lugs and the signature fluted bezel. Although the case is still waterproof to 100m, an alligator strap is not perhaps the best companion for a dip in the pool.
Another key feature of the Tonda PF is the hand-guilloché dials coupled with gold elements. The new Micro-Rotor displays a lovely warm matte grey-coloured dial with grain d’orge guilloché, hand-applied 18k rose gold indices and rose gold skeletonised delta hands. The date window is at 6 o’clock.
The caseback reveals the ultra-thin in-house PF703 automatic movement with its platinum micro-rotor and lavish finishings. Beating at 3Hz, the 3mm-thin calibre delivers a 48-hour power reserve.
Quick facts: 40mm x 7.8mm – 18k rose gold, polished and brushed – screw-down crown – 100m water-resistance – grey guilloché dial with applied 18k rose gold appliqués and hands – in-house calibre PF703, ultra-thin, 3mm-thick automatic with platinum micro-rotor – 21,600vph/3Hz – 48h power reserve – grey alligator strap – ref. Tonda PF Chronograph
As understated and refined as you can get with this kind of a function, the Tonda PF Chronograph incorporates Guido Terreni’s mantra of “sartorial attention to detail“. Measuring 42mm across with a height of 12.4mm, the 18k rose gold case displays the classic Tonda PF mix of polished and satin-finished surfaces. The elegant teardrop-shaped chronograph pushers display a bright polish and echo the shape of the lugs.
Known as Milano Blue, the dark blue dial has a refined hand-guilloché grain d’orge design that looks almost like the material of a smart Italian suit. The three sub-dials – 30-second and 12-hour chronograph registers at 3 and 9 and small seconds at 6 o’clock – are decorated with a recessed micro-sandblasted background for contrast, like the date window at 4 o’clock. The delta skeletonised hands and the applied indices are 18k rose gold, and the hallmark oval cartouche at noon contains the new PF logo.
Equipped with the in-house automatic calibre PF070, the movement is an integrated high-frequency column-wheel chronograph with a 22k rose gold rotor. It is also a COSC-certified chronometer, beats at a frequency of 5Hz and delivers a 65h power reserve.
Quick facts: 42mm x 12.4mm – 18k rose gold, polished and satin-brushed – screw-down crown – 100m water-resistant – Milano Blue hand-guilloché grain d’orge dial, applied 18k rose gold appliqués and hands – in-house calibre PF070, integrated column-wheel chronograph – COSC-certified – 36,000vph/5Hz – 65h power reserve – blue alligator strap – ref. Tonda PF Annual Calendar
The Annual Calendar comes in a 42mm rose gold case with a height of 11.1mm. As an annual calendar, it automatically keeps track of the correct calendar indication for months of 30 or 31 days. Parmigiani’s annual calendar is also calibrated for 29 days and features a delightful moon phase function set against an aventurine sky for both hemispheres with a precision of 122 years. Using a pointer for the retrograde date on the periphery, the days of the week and months are placed inside two recessed counters at 9 and 3 o’clock, with the moon phases at 6 o’clock. The dial has a warm grey tone with a hand-guilloché grain d’orge pattern and 18k rose gold appliqués.
Powered by the in-house automatic calibre PF339, based on the PF331, the frequency is 4Hz, and the 50-hour power reserve is stored inside two series-mounted barrels. The 22k openworked rotor and the movement are finely decorated in classic Parmigiani Fleurier style.
Quick facts: 42mm x 11.1mm – 18k rose gold, polished and satin brushed – screw-down crown – 100m water-resistant – grey hand-guilloché grain d’orge dial, applied 18k rose gold appliqués and hands – in-house calibre PF339, automatic with retrograde annual calendar and precision moon phase – 28,800vph/4Hz – 50h power reserve – brown alligator strap – ref.
