The Colourful Nomos Metro Neomatik x Ace Jewelers
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Ace Jewelers teams up with Nomos for two special editions of the Metro with unmistakably Dutch dials.

Ace Jewelers and Nomos join forces again to create two special Dutch-themed pieces to celebrate the Amsterdam jeweller’s 50th anniversary, following the original Orion De Stijl Limited Edition, the Club Campus Amsterdam, the Zürich Weltzeit Amsterdam and the Tangente 38 Amsterdam. The model selected for this new series is the Metro, a family rarely singled out for limited editions that required the approval of its designer, Mark Braun. The two 50-piece limited editions – Metro Neomatik and Metro Neomatik 39 – fly the Netherlands’ proud orange colours with their vibrant two-tone orange dials.
Ace Jewelers of Amsterdam has forged a close friendship with Nomos, teaming up over the years with the Glashütte brand to produce editions that resonate with its customers. Marking the eighth and ninth collaboration, the two 50th anniversary models hail from the Metro family, designed by Mark Braun in 2014. With a degree in industrial design, Braun’s contemporary, urban design for the Metro is characterised by its elegant minimalism and design features like the wire lugs (a nod to early trench wristwatches) and the thin, tapering hands that capture the look of precision measuring tools.
Described as the most daring colour ever featured on the Metro, the two editions flaunt bold two-tone orange dials. Although the Netherlands’ flag is red, white and blue, the country is proudly associated with the colour orange, thanks to the House of Orange-Nassau, the Dutch royal family.
Available in two case sizes – 35mm x 8.1mm and 38.5mm x 8.4mm – the slim stainless steel cases are polished and feature the signature wire lugs and crown with its fine diamond knurling. Both models are fitted with see-through casebacks to view the ultra-slim in-house automatic movement, and their dials are protected by the collection’s characteristic domed sapphire crystal.
Naturally, the highlight of these anniversary pieces is the bold two-tone orange dial. Thanks to the thin bezel, the dial has plenty of breathing room to reveal its cool designer touches. The larger model features a lighter orange dial with a darker, burnt orange and snailed small seconds counter, while the smaller 35mm model inverts the formula. The distinctive hour and minutes hands, shaped like the profile of the Empire State Building, have needle-thin tips that underscore their precision instrument character. Using larger dots to mark the hours and a clearly printed minutes track with a mix of Arabic numerals at 5-minute intervals and dots, the longer minutes hand alights perfectly on the track.
Both watches are powered by the ultra-thin Nomos DUW 3001 automatic calibre with a thickness of just 3.2mm. Fitted with the brand’s proprietary swing system (balance spring, escape wheel and pallet), the movement has a frequency of 21,600vph, delivers a power reserve of 43 hours and displays attractive finishings like Glashütte ribbing on the three-quarter plate, tempered blued screws and perlage.
The anniversary Metro models are limited editions of 50 individually numbered pieces and are available now at Ace Jewelers’ Amsterdam boutique. The smaller model retails for EUR 3,400 (incl. VAT) and the larger for EUR 3,540 (incl. VAT). Gung-ho fans of the Metro anniversary models should know that 10 sets of matching-numbered pairs, containing both watches, will also be available – more information at acejewelers.com.
