Hanhart, the storied German watchmaker best known for its excellent and iconic pilot chronograph watches and signature red pushers, continues to expand its reach into the depths of the ocean. Following its first dedicated diver, the rugged Aquasphere FreeFall Blue launched last year, the brand now unveils the Aquasphere Ocean Fade with a dial that reminds one of the ever-changing light of the ocean’s depths.

Like the original FreeFall Blue, the Aquasphere Ocean Fade features a stainless steel case measuring 42 mm in width, 12.95 mm in thickness, and with a 49 mm lug-to-lug distance. The brushed and polished finish lends it an understated sophistication while practicality is key: a screw-down crown with protective shoulders and a helium escape valve at 10?o’clock make this a serious contender for deep dives. True to diving watch tradition, the fluted unidirectional bezel is now available in either deep black or vivid blue ceramic, both featuring Hanhart’s signature red marker at 12?o’clock and luminescent markings for reliable timing underwater. A secure screw-down caseback is engraved with maritime imagery, and the watch is water-resistant to 300m.

The Ocean Fade gradient dial fades smoothly from vivid blue at the top to deep black at the bottom, a subtle nod to the way sunlight disappears as divers descend into the darker layers of the sea. Large rectangular indices and bold hands, filled with Super-LumiNova C1 GL X2, ensure outstanding legibility in all conditions. A red-tipped seconds hand provides a touch of Hanhart character and a reassuring running indicator at depth. In line with the collection’s clean, functional aesthetic, there’s no date window to clutter the view.

Hanhart has chosen the reliable Soprod SOP P024 automatic movement, a robust three-hand calibre to power the watch with precision and dependability. Operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency and offering a power reserve of 38 hours, the movement is built with a Glucydur balance and Incabloc shock protection.

Hanhart complements the Ocean Fade’s adventurous spirit with various strap options. New for this model is a durable blue or black rubber strap, designed specifically for diving. The robust rubber band, compatible with the Aquasphere FreeFall Blue, features the modern Hanhart logo and a sturdy stainless steel folding clasp for a secure fit on the wrist, whether over a wetsuit or on bare skin. Divers can also choose the sporty blue Hook Strap or a classic stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp, dive extension, and fine adjustment, perfect for quickly adapting to changing conditions. The Hanhart Aquasphere Ocean Fade is now available in multiple configurations, priced at EUR 1,490 with a Hook Strap, EUR 1,590 with the new rubber strap (black or blue), and EUR 1,690 with the stainless steel bracelet.

  1. Quite a sporty looking watch. Definitely striking as a dive watch. Decently priced. There is no wow factor, it’s just a very functional watch.
