Frosted Silver and Copper Dials for the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase

Fresh dial colours and textures for this elegant and classic GO model.

Glashütte Original’s Senator collection is populated with classical watches that evoke the grand Saxon watchmaking traditions of the 19th century. A slight evolution of the somewhat august Senator range, a sub-collection known as the Senator Excellence, was released in tandem with the brand’s calibre 36 in 2016. The Panorama Date Moon Phase appeared in 2018, and although it featured two complications, the family’s classical spirit and innate elegance prevailed. Two new dial colours with a more contemporary grained texture and applied Roman numerals expand the repertoire.

The refreshed dials of the new Panorama Date Moon Phase models are similar to a couple of stainless steel Senator Excellence models with textured galvanic grey dials. Available in frosted silver or frosted copper, the fine-grained surface provides a more modern matte background for the slim Roman numerals. Applied by hand and made of solid gold, the Roman numerals are coated in a rich blue colour matching the traditional railway-style minutes track, the hands and the sky in the moon phase aperture. The blued pear-shaped hands and slim central seconds hand with a double-G symbol underscore the classical mood of the watch.

As its name indicates, the Panorama Date Moon Phase features the brand’s 1997 Panorama Date complication with two discs mounted side by side in a bevelled aperture at 4 o’clock. Diagonally opposite the date window is the crescent-shaped aperture for the moon phase display with a silvery moon and stars set against a midnight sky. The layout of the two key indications means there is a lot of open space left on the dial to admire the new textured dials. The 40mm stainless steel case has a thickness of 12.2mm, a slender bezel and satin-finished and polished surfaces.

Powered by the Glashütte Original automatic calibre 36-24, it has a remarkable power reserve of at least 100 hours and an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring that guarantees precision and reliability. When correctly set and kept wound, the moon phase indicator can run for 122 years without correction.

In another move to give the watch a more versatile personality, the two models can be worn on an alligator strap, on a synthetic fabric strap (in blue, orange, green, black or grey), or on a stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp. The watch’s retail price on a leather strap or a synthetic fabric strap is EUR 12,700, and EUR 13,700 for the metal bracelet.

  1. Anyone know if they will offer these dials on the time-only version of the Senator Excellence? I would be all over it if they did.
