The Final Edition In De Rijke & Co’s Miffy Moonphase Collection Comes in White Ceramic
The loveable and iconic Dutch cartoon bunny bids farewell.

The unique story of Miffy and De Rijke & Co starts back in 2022, when Dutchman Laurens de Rijke, founder of his own watchmaking company, launched something very unexpected: the Miffy Moonphase. The iconic Dutch cartoon bunny is known and loved the world over, and carefully protected by a foundation honouring Dick Bruna’s (Miffy’s creator) unique legacy. It combined the unique rotatable design of De Rijke’s Amalfi Series watch with a fitting image of Miffy straddling a crescent moon in an oversized moonphase. Now, three years down the road and several limited editions later, it’s time to bid farewell to Miffy, with a rather sleek white ceramic send-off!
The De Rijke & Co Miffy Moonphase ‘Final Edition’ has been in development almost as long as the collection has been around. From very early stages, Laurens had the desire to use the Miffy colour palette to its fullest, and what better way to embrace the colour white than with white ceramic? But working with the high-tech material meant the case had to be re-engineered in some areas to ensure it performs as it should. The modular construction uses a ceramic outer ‘lugcase’, with a ceramic inner case and the signature rotating construction. The way everything works together has been redesigned, with ball bearings to reduce friction and a special spring mechanism to ensure a precise rotating movement.
The case still measures a compact 38mm in diameter, but has been increased slightly, from 10.5mm in the first Miffy Moonphase to 11.3mm for this one. Mind you, that includes the crystal! The unique rotating construction has been retained, so the inner case can be set to any position in its 90-degree arc. Part of the pay-off of its modular construction is that individual components can be easily replaced if damaged. Ceramic might be virtually scratch-proof, but it is a touch brittle after all. Knocking it against a doorpost or dropping it from a height can be catastrophic. The sapphire crystal on top is domed and leaves only a very thin bezel.
To match the sterile white exterior, the dial is finished with matte white lacquer. This has a slightly domed profile, thanks to the curved ring for the minute track. The markers and hour and minute hands are in black, to provide plenty of contrast, and are filled with grade X2 Super-LumiNova in exact Dick Bruna colours (something the Dick Bruna foundation was adament about!). The third central hand, finished in red/orange lacquer, is for the seconds. But more than anything, it’s about the oversized moonphase in the upper section! Here you can see Miffy sitting leisurely on a crescent moon, surrounded by stars. The entire moonphase disc is made in-house and also uses Super-LumiNova on Miffy, the moon and the stars.
Inside the rotatable inner case beats a modified Sellita SW288-1 automatic, similar to previous editions. This ETA 2892 alternative runs at a rate of 28,800vph and delivers a power reserve of 38 hours. Originally, this calibre also comes with a date function, but that has been left out. The quick-set on the moonphase is still there, though, to make setting easy. The movement is hidden from sight by a steel caseback decorated with an outline of Miffy holding a balloon.
The swansong for De Rijke & Co’s whimsical and highly successful Miffy Moonphase collection is limited to 100 pieces in total. With it, you get a white FKM rubber strap with a pin buckle and a red elastic ‘Paratrooper’ strap. The watch retails for EUR 3,950 excl. VAT and will go on sale at 4 pm this afternoon! Be quick, though, as previous editions have sold out very fast!

I really like this, it is utterly charming.
The ceramic would shatter if it was dropped though, surely? Seems like a silly choice of material for a watch case.
This is the ultimate snubbery: a toy priced like a watch.
