The Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver Military
B&R instrument diver's watch ready for a trip on the battle field.
Since its inception, Bell & Ross has mainly focused its production on answering the needs of professionals or special forces, whether pilots, commandos and also, divers. Already in the mid-1990s, the brand was active in this field with an impressive watch, the Hydromax. But recently, the idea was to develop a watch made for divers with the brand’s iconic instrument design. Basically, how to fit a circle within a square… Launched in 2017 under the name BR 03-92 Diver, this watch has since been edited in multiple variations. And the latest model echoes the brand’s first inspirations. Here’s the Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver Military.
While watches made for pilots are the main topic when it comes to Bell & Ross, the brand is no stranger to the dive watch either. Following the 1997 Hydromax, an oiled-filled watch capable of withstanding depths of 11,100 meters, B&R launched multiple instrument dive watches, such as the BR 02. Following its discontinuation, the brand decided that such a watch had to come back in the collection, yet using its signature instrument case… Which meant adapting a circular bezel to a square case. Yet, the result presented in 2017 was convincing, as not only perfectly in line with the brand’s DNA, but also being a well-designed diver’s watch.
Since the first steel and black dial model, the brand has launched editions in bronze, with a fully luminescent dial, with a bold orange dial or with a full-black attire matched with a ceramic case. This watch, the Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver Black, is today slightly modified to meet with the brand’s classic military inspirations.
The recipe is well-known, as the base for this watch remains identical to previous editions. This means a 42mm x 42mm square case made of matte black ceramic, a lightweight, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective material. This Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver Military comes equipped with a monoblock ceramic bezel, unidirectional and with a luminous 60-minute diving scale. Thanks to the solid ceramic back, a thick sapphire crystal on top (2.85mm) and a screw-down crown (with large crown guards), it is rated for a 300m water-resistance. The case is also equipped with a soft-iron cage to increase its resistance to magnetic fields. Finally, the BR 03 Diver Military is a true dive watch, as it meets the international standard ISO 6425.
New for this model is the dial, which relies on a classic of military watches, a matte khaki green dial. The hands and applied markers are all outlined in black for more contrast, and largely filled with Super-LumiNova. During daytime, the time indicators bear a pale almond colour, which will turn into a phosphorescent green when reaching depth and darkness. The display remains classic, with central hours, minutes and seconds, as well as a tone-on-tone date at 4:30. The watch is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.302, an internal name for a Sellita SW300-1 – a reliable automatic movement with a 42h power reserve.
Matching the colour of the dial or the colour of the case, the BR 03 Diver Military is delivered with two straps. First is a classic black rubber strap with PVD coated steel pin buckle. Even more suitable is an ultra-resilient olive drab synthetic fabric strap with a Velcro closure system – which clearly brings the final military touch.
The Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver Military is delivered in a water-resistant Pelican box and will be limited to 999 pieces. It is now available from the brand’s online shop and from retailers. It is priced at EUR 4,400. More details and orders at bellross.com.
