The Awake Dare & Dream with a Doodle Art Dial
The brand says farewell to its 01 Titane model and invites a bunch of party-loving aliens to celebrate.
Awake, a spirited French watchmaking brand, initially grabbed our attention with its NASA-themed series (now sold out), followed by the Time Travellers collection featuring meteorite dials (also sold out). Towards the end of last year, Awake unveiled the Summetria collection, boasting dials adorned with coloured guilloché patterns, which are still available. Now, the brand introduces the Dare & Dream watch, featuring dial artwork crafted by French illustrator Nicolas Barrome Furgues. This limited release marks the conclusion of the first chapter in Awake’s watchmaking journey and heralds the dawn of a new era. Accompanying the launch is a tale of an alien invasion of planet Earth, adding an element of fun to the announcement.
The Awake Dare & Dream edition maintains the same recycled titanium case seen in previous Awake releases, featuring a matte blasted finish. Measuring 40mm in diameter and 11.89mm in thickness, it weighs 65 grams and is equipped with a screw-down crown in the brand’s usual screw-nut shape, ensuring water-resistance of up to 100 meters. The sapphire crystal is anti-reflective, with “Dare & Dream” inscribed on the inner bezel.
While the case is simply nice, the textured dial of the watch “dedicated to the brand’s friends and the child in all of them” is sure to captivate, for it is a host to many images. There are spaceships, planets, satellites, and aliens – all rendered in the original style of artist Nicolas Barrome Furgues. Some playful touches include the Awake logo being taken apart by mischievous creatures and a few of the applied indices appearing misplaced or stolen amidst the cosmic commotion. However, there are enough remaining to allow for easy time reading via the central hour, minute, and second hands, all in place. In low-light conditions, the dial truly comes to life as the doodle-art drawings, handset, and remaining indices glow brightly, thanks to the application of BGW9 Super-LumiNova.
Continuing the alien theme, the caseback of the Awake Dare & Dream features an image reminiscent of “the final scene of a science fiction film” – two ETs taking a last look at the engine room before engaging the airlock. As for the engine powering this watch, it’s the automatic Miyota 9039, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, with a 42-hour power reserve.
The Awake Dare & Dream can be paired with a white textured Biopoly (bio-based polymer) or a black Zulu strap, both secured with a pin buckle. Limited to just 50 pieces, this edition is priced at EUR 890, tax excluded, and orders will open in the afternoon of May 16. For further details, visit awakewatches.com.
