The Awake Concept Mission to Earth Chapter III Time Travelers
A journey through time and space with the young French watchmaking brand.
Awake Concept was born with the ambition to make things different, in particular by promoting more sustainable consumption. We first discovered them with the NASA-Themed Awake Concept Mission to Earth here. Now, the young French watchmaking brand releases the third Chapter of its Mission to Earth series. Dubbed Time Travelers, it explores once again the theme of space exploration, this time with meteorite dials.
Following their Nasa-themed Chapter I and Chapter II, the third chapter of the Awake Concept Mission to Earth continues with cosmic inspiration. Envisioned as “a tribute to the beauty of the world and its origins,” it brings meteorite fragments to your wrist.
A fragment of time and universe on the wrist
Meteorite is one of the most fascinating materials you can find on Earth, even though it doesn’t come from Earth… Needless to say that with it, each watch is, by definition, unique, since the characteristic Widmanstätten pattern seen on their dial occurs naturally and varies in each watch. Awake Concept has used fragments from the Muonionalusta meteorite, which hit the Earth’s surface about a million years ago. The first fragment was discovered in Sweden in 1906, and it is believed to be the oldest meteorite known to date. Meteorite fragments are cut into thin strips which are then polished to reveal the striations. The applied indexes and hands reinforce the sense of depth. These are fitted with BGW9 Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in all conditions.
Recycled-titanium case
40mm in diameter, the Awake Concept Time Travelers case is fashioned out of 70% recycled titanium. According to the brand, it offers performances equivalent to those of a virgin material. As such, it makes for a perfect material for a robust everyday-use tool watch while reducing the environmental impact, in line with the brand’s ambition to promote alternative, more sustainable consumption. In this respect, the black strap is made of Biopoly, a bio-based polymer, derived from castor, a natural plant. The crown screws down and the water resistance is rated at 100m.
Non-intrusive Identification embedded in the crystal
The Awake Time Travelers watch once again uses the very cool STISS – ID Glass technology introduced with the first chapter of Mission to Earth. Each watch is fitted with a unique and unforgeable marker invisibly encrusted into the sapphire crystal. Its non-intrusive technology works with an NFC tag. It guarantees the watch traceability and gives access to an app with exclusive content and services hosted and secured in the blockchain. All you need to do is to place your phone next to the watch to get access to all information attached to your watch.
Automatic Miyota movement
Powering the watch is a modified Miyota 9015. Visible via the exhibition case back, this automatic movement runs at a 4Hz frequency and can store up to 42 hours of autonomy when fully wound. A stop-seconds mechanism allows for precise setting. The bridges are decorated with stripes and the openworked rotor has polished bevels, a mix of brushed and sandblasted surfaces and it is engraved with the caption “Dare mighty things”.
