Arnold & Son, the brand founded in honour of the famous 18th-century English watchmaker John Arnold, translates his historical legacy into high-end Swiss watches powered by in-house movements – about 20 to date. Arnold & Son’s HM line is the brand’s more dress-oriented collection and is also powered by a powerful, ultra-thin, in-house calibre. A tribute to refined, minimalist watchmaking, the HM lends its lean profile to a collaboration piece with The Limited Edition, the premier UK specialist retailer with a select portfolio of high-end independent watch brands, including Arnold & Son. The miniature artwork on the dial of this 20-piece limited edition, available in steel or red gold, provides a historical snapshot of London’s skyline.

Celebrating two significant milestones – Arnold & Son’s 260th anniversary and The Limited Edition’s 10th  – the HM London Skyline is a symbolic choice for both brands, given their deep roots in the city. Presented in 39.5mm cases in polished red gold or steel, complemented by a slim height of just 7.82mm, the HM London Skyline is an elegant two-hand dress watch. As a commemorative limited edition, the caseback is engraved with the individual serial number x/20 and The Limited Edition star logo.

Set against a shimmering blue mother-of-pearl background, the dial recreates iconic London landmarks. A detailed recreation of Tower Bridge dominates the foreground, while the silhouettes of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral can be seen in the background under an ethereal blanket of clouds and a pale blue sky.

However, when the lights go down, a magical spectacle is enacted on the dial as contemporary landmarks appear out of the blue. Using a special Super-LumiNova technique, the shape of two emblematic buildings, affectionately known as the Shard and the Gherkin, appears in the background, as well as the unmistakable profile of the London Eye observation wheel. While it’s easy to get distracted by the beautiful scenery, time is indicated by discreet dot hour and minute markers and slim sword-shaped hour and minute hands with luminescent tips.

The sapphire window on the caseback reveals the ultra-thin in-house manual-winding calibre A&S1001. With a thickness of just 2.7mm, the movement has a proprietary double barrel for an impressive 90-hour power reserve. It is elegantly decorated with radiating Côtes de Genève, circular graining on the mainplate, snailed wheels, hand-chamfered bridges with polished bevels and blued screws.

Limited to 20 pieces in red gold and 20 in stainless steel, the HM London Skyline is paired with a blue alligator leather strap and secured with a pin buckle matching the case metal. It retails for GBP 23,500 (excl. tax) in gold and GBP 15,000 in steel. It is available exclusively at TheLimitedEdition.co.uk.
