Clubs of enthusiasts, whatever the passion people are sharing, have long existed and their influence is growing. More and more local initiatives are created, such as RedBar or, for today’s matters, the Qatar Watch Club. With the idea to generate passion and increase horological knowledge among their members, as well as offering watches made specifically for them, QWC is now presenting a new dedicated watch. Following a Tudor Pelagos and a Ulysse Nardin Freak X, it is time for something dressier, with the Hermès Arceau for “Qatar Watch Club.”

This special edition for Qatari watch aficionados is based on one of the most classic designs of French brand Hermès, the Arceau – a watch with strong equestrian roots – designed in 1978 by Henri d’Origny. As with many creations by Hermès, the shape is unusual yet full of elegance. The watch for the QWC is based on the larger edition, the so-called TGM (très grand modèle), with a 40mm stainless steel case and the typical lugs at 12 o’clock.

What really matters here is the colour, unique to this watch. As explained by Abdulla Ali from the Qatar Watch Club, “we wanted a colour that is related to us Qatari’s and Hermès, and there was no better colour than Ebene. The colour is deep-rooted in Hermès equestrian history and for us, horses are a big part of our history.” The classic dial of the Hermès Arceau, with its silvered raised Arabic numerals and herringbone motif, is here executed in dark brown, paired with a matching strap in matte alligator leather.

To go even further in the design, Abdulla Ali explained to us that they “wanted to add a little touch of fun to the watch” and the idea came like this “why not add a hint of orange to the watch? After all, it’s the colour most associated with the brand.” As such, the QWC added discreet touches of orange on the 5-minute markers on the dial, as well as for the stitchings on the strap.

The watch is powered by an automatic Manufacture movement, the calibre H1837 made by Vaucher. Decorated in classic Hermès style, with satin-brushed bridges and oscillating weight, as well as the H-pattern on the bridges/rotor, it beats at 4Hz and stores up to 50 hours of power reserve. It displays the hours and minutes, as well as the date with a disc matching the dial’s colour.
