CFB refreshes a classic with new colours and more contemporary dials.
The Manero collection at Carl F. Bucherer represents the best of the brand in terms of watchmaking. And CFB being CFB, it has a lot to do with peripheral technology, an advanced and technically impressive solution to wind the movement. Even though CFB didn’t invent it and it isn’t the only brand that uses this technical solution, Carl F. Bucherer is, without a doubt, the brand that best manages to implement it all across its portfolio, including in relatively accessible watches. Following the update in 2021 of the Manero Peripheral BigDate, the brand now releases revamped editions of its most classic watch with a peripheral rotor, the Manero Peripheral 40mm. And it has been given a fresher look.
For many years, the Manero Peripheral watch (understand the classic version with small seconds and date) has looked like this, a relatively discreet and traditional watch available in 40mm or 43mm cases. In the same vein as what was done two years ago on the BigDate version, and also with the decision to bring a more contemporary look – we’ve seen this with the all-black CFB Capsule Collection – the classic Manero Peripheral gets new dials, a fair dose of colours and a more casual attire.
Let’s first talk about what hasn’t changed. The case, which is in stainless steel on all versions, retains the relatively compact proportions of previous versions, meaning 40.6mm in diameter and 11.2mm in height. It’s nicely designed, with elegant curves and soft lines, including a nicely done bevel on the side of the lugs and a slightly protruding element framing the crown. Sapphire crystals are found on both sides, and the water-resistance is rated at 30m – slightly low.
The movement remains – for the best – the same, meaning manufacture calibre CFB A2050. This is based on the second-generation base A2000 movement launched in 2016 and features (of course) the bidirectional peripheral rotor mounted on ceramic ball bearings, allowing for efficient winding and an uncluttered view of the movement. Unlike a traditional central rotor, peripheral technology allows a full view of all technical parts. And this movement deserves to be seen, with its graphic bridges and nice decoration. It beats at 4Hz and delivers a comfortable 55h power reserve.
What’s new, then? Well, mostly, we’re talking about a facelift of the dials. Just like the updated Manero Peripheral BigDate of 2021, the Manero Peripheral 40mm is given a fresher, more contemporary and casual look by using brighter colours, contrasting elements and textures. The dials are now circular brushed and available in various colours – silver-white with gold accents and black sub-seconds, black with gold accents and silver sub-seconds, and blue, salmon, brown, or green with rhodium-plated accents and black sub-seconds.
Finally, the casual touch comes from the strap. No more formal alligator leather. Instead, the Manero Peripheral now comes on a black hybrid rubber strap with a grooved texture. It is closed by a stainless steel pin lock folding clasp and features a quick-release system.
